The first time I heard John “Mookie” Thomas talk, I knew what he was about.
“Terrence! You were supposed to call me at 9. Now I gotta call you back,” is what he left on my voicemail.
He wasn’t really yelling nor was he really mad. The tone in his voice simply said, ‘Yo, young man. Handle ya B-I !’
With many of Crooklyn’s finest calling Mookie an older brother/uncle figure, I guess it was only right that I got the same treatment. Mookie’s all about responsibility and earning everything given to him, which was never more evident than at the Nike TOC.

The first time I saw these sneakers, I was in 10th grade reading a Slam Magazine during lunch, fell in love with them then and I still love ‘em. Who would have known six years later I would be an online writer at large for bouncemag.com? Now if only I can find a pair on Ebay.
On Wednesday, Lower East Scribe and I had the privilege of supporting support my mans Kool Bob Love at his Pro Keds Royal Flash sneaker release party. The party was off the chain with Kool Bob on the ones and twos. Very unique music I must say, way before my time, in fact, way before I was thought of. Check out the cool clip with interviews from Kool Bob, Dante Ross, DJ Clark Kent, me and more.
It has been eight years since the Grizz packed up and headed south to the sold out crowds (not!) at the FedEx forum in Memphis. Two years ago, “Sonicgate” went down, and the Emerald City lost out on a forty year relationship with their pro hoops squad. For fans on northwest corner of the 49th parallel, who have not been able or willing to make the three to five hour drive to the Rose Garden, this was the best opportunity to support BC’s own Steve Nash and his crew from Arizona. Not surprising, many of the fans were just as supportive of the league’s up and coming Trailblazers, lead by Seattle’s Brandon Roy.
After much anticipation, Kryie Irving, ESPN’s #6 ranked player in the 2010 class and Bounce #22 cover man, committed to Duke Thursday, giving the Blue Devils their biggest point-guard signee since Jason Williams.
Irving, a senior at St. Patrick HS in Elizabeth, N.J., played in the Elite 24 at Rucker Park in August.
Irving’s former high-school teammate Dexter Strickland is a freshman at UNC this year.
Jerron playing Grown Man Ball at Together We Chill
I got a chance to see Jerron Love last week at Lex’s 8th grade showcase at the Brooklyn Rec Center and came away impressed. Got an e-mail from his Dad today saying that he was going to make the 3:00 pm Middle School Game at JFK on 230th Street in the Bronx. For you backpackers, take the 1 train to 231st and hit 230th and go down 3 blocks. Kennedy HS is on the left.
Featured on Streetball.com and in Spain’s Crossover Magazine, could Jerron be the next “Skip?” Come through Saturday at JFK in the Bronx and check it out.
The Jim Couch Reunion Weekend is in full swing with seven games coming at you over a two day period. On Saturday, four top dog games will kick off at John F. Kennedy High School in the Bronx. Look forward to a super strong middle school game pitting New York vs New Jersey, a sophomore game also featuring New York vs New Jersey and a girl’s high school all-star game between Westchester vs New York City. Past participants: Kemba Walker, Tobias Harris and China Crosby.
Go to www.jimcouchfoundation.org for more information. On Sunday, teams from Boston, New Jersey, Connecticut and Upstate New York will come to Baruch College on 24th Street and Lexington Avenue to battle. See Rosters: Read More »

Kadour Ziani was here this Tuesday testing out the rims at the world famous streetball court, KINGDOME. As I made my way through Martin Luther King projects, I could see from a distance that he started his test runs by jamming the ball between the backboard and rim. Read More »
