“In three’s” I was told by a big time rap mogul one day long ago. “Successful times and moments come in three’s.” I didn’t forget. As the New Year approaches, I’m looking for clean game and clean sounds. I want to see more highlights and less stupid, mash-upped games that make people nervous. Yo, let’s try the the 3-Pack. Start with a high-top fade, a blockparty and a kid nicknamed “Problem” who brings an area code down for some more championship fun. Keep your man “Rocky Horror” happy, or else my other friend, who actually is my enemy, shows up. The city is never the same… Read More »

Dyckman Semi-Finals Set the Stage for Unlikely Championship The Latest / Aug 18, 2010 / 2:04 pm
Playoff action resumed at Dyckman last night with yet another electric crowd. Fans at Dyckman really get into the game. Yes, they are often literally on the court and in the game that way, but they are also basketball-savvy fans who do not hesitate to let their opinions be known. No better time to speak up than when the stakes are at their highest: playoffs. Win or go home. And it’s a long wait until the summer of 2011 – lots of lost sleep can take place over that one turnover you wish you had back or that rushed shot that was swatted into next summer.
Last night Mann Up took on TNP and Team 914 faced Castle Hill in Dyckman semi-final action. Continue reading for details on how it all went down. Read More »
Mingus is Uptown: TNP vs Undefeated Team 914 at EBC Game of the Week The Latest / Jul 9, 2010 / 6:46 pm
New to the Bounce blog is Mingus Murray, musician and baller. Think Lenny Kravitz with game. Mingus played high school ball at Hun in Princeton against the powerful Blair Academy team with Luol Deng. Dropped 36 on em’ and now he’s down with us….
Whats up everyone this is Mingus Murray, new blogger for Bounce Magazine. I headed up to the EBC at Rucker Park to catch the game of the week between undefeated Team 914 vs TNP. Last night marked a big day in basketball news. Lebron’s decision was on everyone’s mind in NYC. Will Lebron come and join Amare Stoudemire, will he return to the Cavs, will he join H to the O V in Jersey, or will he take a slight pay cut and dream team it up with D-Wade and Chris Bosh? The World would find out shortly but for all of us in Harlem, watching Team 914 and TNP go at it, Lebron’s decision slipped from our minds… for a little while. Read More »

New York City is the home of summer outdoor ball. There are several strong tournaments in New York – Gun Hill, Hoops in the Sun, Watson, Together We Chill, EBC, Kingdome, and others. Many long time tournament watchers would like to see all of them compete.
“Is this really the tournament of champions?” questioned NYC Pro/Am ref Eric Weaver. “This is only Nike sponsored tournaments. We’re missing EBC, Watson, there’s other major tournaments that have champions.” Read More »

(Sunday, August 16th) The championship day marked the 5th anniversary of the passing of Joe “Pops” Cruz. It was a memorable one as Pops 5 Legacy, a team created in honor of the Hoops in the Sun founder, took on Team 914 in the championship game at Orchard Beach in the Bronx. A moment of silence was held before the start of the game. People, hoop-heads and beach goers alike, took to the stands, along the sidelines, and by the main entrance for a packed game. MCs Bobby C and G-Stacks announced the commentary and in-game analysis of situations, players, and teams. Read More »

James Ryan’s Prime Time has battled to the EBC Finals 2009 by defeating top seeded in their division Angie Martinez, 91-80 thanks to patience and a supporting cast of players, while Coach Sean Oliver’s Team 914 survived a triple-overtime thriller against Hustle Hard (aka Brooklyn’s X-Men) and a close ten point victory over Coach Rah’s Sean Bell All-Stars at Gauchos Gym in the Bronx.

Both teams had contrasting seasons as Team 914 claimed the best record in the regular season compared to Prime Time’s sub-.500 record. Miguel “Miles High” Milien and Yatta Gaines lead the way for Prime Time versus a stacked Team 914 with Torey “Stix” Thomas, Aaron “The Problem” Williams, former Providence guard Donnie McGrath, and St. John’s alum big man Kyle Cuffe to name a few.

So, who take the chip tonight at 8:00pm tonight? The patient team with role players or the squad that rolls deep? It should be exciting as both sides play hard-nosed defense in addition to high-energy offense.
Get your seat early as security will be tight and seats will be limited!
