The PF Flyers Center Hi will be making its return to store shelves this upcoming Holiday season. Released in 1953, the canvas shoe was once a reliable favorite for ballplayers who tangoed on the parquet all along the eastern seaboard. Its playing days might be long behind it, but the Center was recently reintroduced with quilted uppers and textured mudguards, perfect combinations for your off the asphalt affairs.

I see Steve Burtt Sr., former NBA player and Rucker Park Legend in the parks of Harlem frequently and to this day, the first thing he does is look at what are on my feet. He would kid me if I didn’t have on the standard issue Air Force 1, still, the standard issue uptown doonkies. He would tell me I had to “pick up my footwear game.” I’m not a sneakerhead or a collector, I get free kicks from time to time and if I like them, I put them on fresh out the box, no ice, just straight-to-the-feet-and-go. Growing up as a kid, I always rocked Converse or Nike’s on the court and still do, but when someone said “PF Flyer’s” back in the day, I looked like they were speaking a foreign language. But I got these joints in the mail a few days ago and I had some eyes flowing to my feet while riding the “A” train yesterday. These kicks were comfortable and stylish and for a moment of chill, real effective. So for a day, I got some “head cheese,” the positive head nod giving props to my footwear. So big ups to PF Flyers, things change.
