Nike reps, Bounce familia and the fans of NYC summer ball had waited for this day the way Lil’ Dez does when he sits outside Kobe and LeBron’s apartment– uncontrollably bopping around in excitement, just waiting to see their heroes.
The 1 train, The Village, Hunter College and Harlem World have all been watching and waiting to crown the team of the summer. After months of players getting after it on all surfaces in all locations, the city finally got its wish this weekend. Read More »

The only thing hotter than the temperature in NYC yesterday was the X-Men shooting.
The team drilled 17 threes en route to knocking off Diamond, 117-100, for its second consecutive West 4th crown.
The X-Men jumped out early behind the hot hands of Tommie “Gunz” Eddie and Sean Dantlzer, who combined for 20 first-quarter points, and held a 32-13 advantage after the first ten minutes.
By halftime, it was a 26-point game. Diamond never got closer than 13 the rest of the way. Read More »

Tommie “Gunz” Eddie scored 25 points and Mike Campbell added 18 as the X-Men advanced to their second consecutive West 4th final Saturday afternoon, knocking off Pick & Roll, 95-87.
The X-Men led virtually the entire way and took a five-point lead into intermission.
But Miguel “Miles High” Millien netted all 20 of his points in the third quarter to bring Pick & Roll back. Read More »

Ramon Rodriguez and I met circa 1994. We lived on the same block in the Lower East Side, and I noticed his ill white/orange Nike Air Ballistics. “Where’d you get those?” I asked, and that opened an entire friendship that would encompass a mutual love for music, dancing, family, and of course b-ball. We started putting up jumpers at the 14th St. Y every morning at 8am, and eventually ran together in tournaments like Fireball, Tillary Park, Nickelodeon, Ham-Fish, on and on.
In 2002, he, Jack Ryan, and I formed Project Playground, a traveling basketball performance group that wound up doing halftime shows for the Mavs, Knicks, Hornets, U Conn, U of Tennessee, U of Florida, u name it! Those are all great memories, and I consider “Mone” my little brother, so you know I was stupid proud this summer to see him rock the big screen in Taking Of Pelham 1, 2, 3 alongside Denzel, and the blockbuster Transformers.
Recently, Ramon went on the Jimmy Kimmel Show for an interview. Towards the end he shows Kimmel some b-ball tricks–HIGHLARIOUS!
If you wondering if the brother can really play Read More »
Mike Campbell rises and fires for three.
Tommie “Gunz” Eddie was cold. Mike “The Icon” Campbell had several uncharacteristic turnovers. And the X-Men guards couldn’t seem to lock down the Sean Bell backcourt pests. There were several reasons why the X-Men should’ve lost at West 4th Street Friday evening. And yet, when it was over, the boys in black exited the Cage with smiles on their faces, looking like bankrobbers after pulling off a successful heist.
After trailing by six entering the fourth, the veteran X-Men outscored Sean Bell 35-19 over the final 10 minutes to steal a win in a matchup of the last two West 4th Street champions. Read More »
Mike Campbell and his Money Inc. opponents were jawing at each other all game.
X-Men point guard Steve Chase is hardly a household name. On a team that features perennial superstars Mike “King of New York” Campbell and Tommie “Gunz” Eddie, Chase is more a solid veteran who won’t make many mistakes than a magnet to camera flashes.
But Friday night, Chase delivered one of the biggest shots of his life—a buzzer beater at West 4th Street to give the defending champion X-Men an 82-80 win over Money Inc. Read More »
