March 8, 2010. 40 days left to the Jordan All-American Game at Madison Square Garden. Four Elite 24 Rucker Park MVP’s are playing: #5 Tobias Harris [has an NBA skill-set already], #7 Josh Selby, #8 C.J. Leslie, and # 25 Doron Lamb.

The top-10 ranked high school players, according to ESPNU, have all been given the Jordan All-American shine but which one is ready though, for the hot ESPN lights, the Spike Lee scrutiny and the New York City critique. Who’s your early MVP favorite? Read More »

Kyrie Irving to Duke? The Latest / Oct 4, 2009 / 2:12 pm

Chapel Hill, N.C. – Just ran into North Carolina guard Dexter Strickland, who said he spoke to his former high school teammate and Bounce #22 cover-man Kyrie Irving Saturday, and he said he thinks the St. Patrick’s point guard will commit to Duke, which would add even more excitement to arguably the greatest rivalry in sports.

Irving and Strickland would be the latest high-school pair to don different shades of blue. Wayne Ellington and Gerald Henderson committed to UNC and Duke respectively out of Episcopal HS outside of Philadelphia about four years ago.

The 4th annual Boost Mobile Elite 24 event, and it was an event indeed, was off the hook! First of all, anytime you put the top twenty-four high school ballers in the country on one court you’re bound to witness some quality hoops. But they weren’t gathered on just any court. They were gathered in the mecca: NYC. The hallowed grounds of Rucker Park, no less; however, due to poor weather conditions the game was actually moved to Gaucho’s Gym in the BX – the court that Stephon Marbury, Ed Pinckney, Sebastian Telfair, Rod Strickland and so many others have played on. The kids were playing D, which is unusual in all-star contests. They were also having fun. In the four years of announcing the event, I’ve never seen a group joke around with each other and smile after the game as much as this year’s crop. A lot of them were asking me, “You gonna give me a nickname, right?” Only if they deserve one! Cats that super-impressed seeing them for the first time were Kendall Marshall, CJ Leslie, Kyrie Irving, Roscoe Smith and Harrison Barnes. Doron Lamb Read More »

The fourth ever Boost Mobile Elite 24 HS All-American game comes to Rucker Park again this Friday, August 21. Harrison Barnes, Kyrie Irving, Doron Lamb, Tobias Harris, Tristan Thompson, Dion Waiters, on and on will rock out on the court while Brandon Jennings, Rajon Rondo, Tyreke Evans, Ron Naclerio, Tiny Morton and more will man the sidelines. The Dunk Contest will jump off at 5:30pm; game time is 7pm (broadcast on ESPNU Saturday @ 7pm). Entry is free; take the D train to 155th St.

Over ten former Elite 24 participants are now playing in the NBA, so understand the level of comp. I’ve had a lot of fun announcing the game since it’s inaugural year in 2006, and was recently asked by ESPN to list my ten favorite nicknames I’ve come up in the first three years (that I can remember at least!)

Lance Stephenson aka “Born Ready”: Lance was killing at EBC, Kingdome, and other men’s tournaments before he even stepped into the gym at Lincoln HS. Born Ready was the best way I could describe his game, simple as that!
