Basketball, broken down to its simplest compound, is about scoring more buckets than the team you’re playing against. The Semi-Automatic refers to players who leave bodies in their wake with their innate ability to get buckets. And few players can truly say that they are, or ever were, on the same level as the man known as “Mao Santa”, aka “The Holy Hand.” Read More »
Last night, I had the great fortune of being invited to the world premiere Tribeca Film Festival screening of Spike Lee’s new documentary Kobe Doin’ Work which will air live on ESPN on May 16th at 7:30 p.m.
I’ve worked with Spike three times. First, he cast me to portray a DJ in his epic flick Summer of Sam. Next, he had me do music consulting for 25th Hour. More recently, he and I collabed on the Nate Robinson commercial for the Knicks which ran during the Slam Dunk champion’s rookie season. I have mad respect for cool Spike. He’s even come down to hear me spin at my VINYL IS FOREVER @ APT party on occasion. Word.
Most of you already know that Kobe Bryant and I share the same alma mater in Lower Merion HS. I was there quite a few years before him (I was class of ‘84), and even though he plays on the opposite side of the Knicks, I root for the brother regardless. (I’d love a pair of his new kicks, too, if anyone at Nike is reading this! haha!)
So while I was getting interviewed on the red carpet prior to the screening, you know I was amped cuz it’s two peoples whose work ethics I crazy respect. When the curtain rolled up, I leaned forward on the edge of my seat, almost assuming a defensive stance . . . Read More »
I was browsing Youtube for some comedy the other night and happened to find a Smush Parker interview from the past summer on Summerball (MSG). I must’ve missed an episode ‘cause this was the first time my eyes saw this.
Anyway, if you haven’t heard, Smush Parker trashed KB 24 on national TV, and yes KB 24 stands for KOBE, the former gangsta rapper (whose album went triple copper lol) with 3 NBA rings out of 5 try’s, one MVP award and probably the hottest wife in basketball.
While “Grim Reaper” Parker didn’t go quite as far as Shaq did on stage last year after the finals screaming, “Tell me how my A$# taste,” the former Fordham standout didn’t exactly keep his opinions to himself. Peep the clip.

Kobe Bryant just hit 61 points in his last game against the knicks, and guess what? He was wearing his new Kobe IV , a low cut basketball sneaker. Bryant reached maturity in his game and is constantly searching a way to improve his performance on the court. Nike’s designer Eric Avar has built a low cut sneaker to help Kobe move freely on the court, to get more dynamism and lightness ( Wt. 11.2 oz.). I’m happy that such an influential player on the shoes business is now playing with low tops.
When the Nike Hyperdunk launched in July, it was one of the most anticipated releases the basketball world had ever seen. Kobe Bryant jumped over an Aston Martin and a pool of snakes wearing Hyperdunks and when the USA Hoops team kicked off their schedule in Beijing, a bunch of the squad (including Bryant) wore the Hyperdunk on their way to winning Gold. Kobe led the team to an 8-0 record, scoring 20 points in the Gold Medal game victory over Spain. Other notable players wearing the Hyperdunks at the Olympics were Read More »
Tenacious! Relentless! Ferocious! Unrelenting work ethic. The Chairman of the Boards.
Those are the words that immediately come to mind when I think of one of the game’s true pioneers, Moses. He was the modern era’s trailblazer that went from ashy to classy, straight from high school to the pros, and blossomed into one of the greatest big men the game has ever seen. The time has now come to step into another chamber, the one reserved for the big boys who called the paint home. Read More »
The video above shows the thoughts of a prototypical American-beer-drinking-$200- dollar-a-game-spending-fan. He talks about how Budweiser, now under the ownership
of Belgium beverage giant InBev, has shook America’s consciousness and ties it in with
the possible LeBron jump to Europe. Read More »
