Taking it upstairs, the X-Men put together a late run, but fell short to Big Apple Basketball at Pro City
United Brooklyn snatched a come-from-behind victory over The Uptowners, overcoming a late double-digit deficit. Meanwhile, the X-Men’s typical balanced attack was no match for Big Apple Basketball’s dynamic backcourt of John Lucas, Jr. (33) and Corey “Homicide” Williams (30), who combined for 63 points. It’s a fascinating thing to rate players. As a playground soul, my heart dwells in skills that are not of the norm, moves and rhythm that are consistent, yet stylish. Kyrie Irving and Kemba Walker are two that caught my eye early and both graced the cover of Bounce before the national spotlight caught up to them. After my weekend at the John Lucas Clinic in Houston, TX I’m feeling good about John Lucas and his mission. The man has the right people in the gym to give truthful advice to kids and parents to go along with the high-caliber training.
I wanna be like him one day and I’m working on it, but for now, here are my rankings of the top 10 players (7th and 8th graders combined) at the clinic. My thanks to talent evaluators Clark Francis and Van Coleman for sharing their time and experiences with me this past weekend.

Basketball, broken down to its simplest compound, is about scoring more buckets than the team you’re playing against. The Semi-Automatic refers to players who leave bodies in their wake with their innate ability to get buckets. And last night, Kobe Bryant added another jewel in the crown of his stellar career by becoming the Los Angeles Lakers all-time leading scorer, thanks to his 44-point outburst against the Grizzlies.
