Ballers Education: Holcombe Rucker Community Relations, Rucker / May 18, 2009 / 9:00 am

Born on March 2, 1926, Holcombe Rucker stood for his community. He was raised in Harlem, NY at 141st Street & Bradhurst Avenue by his grandmother, Rosa Deniston. Rucker went on to play guard at Benjamin Franklin High School in East Harlem before dropping out to serve for the United States Army during World War II.

In 1946, he returned to New York at 20 years old with maturity, responsibility, and an urgency to finish where he left off. Upon his homecoming, Rucker earned his General Equivalency High School Diploma (GED).

Summer Teaser: On Hallowed Ground The Latest / Feb 28, 2009 / 10:00 am

On the verge of spring and nice weather, we reminisce of summer days in the playground. Dunks, crossovers, and even ooohs and ahhs from the crowd stay fresh in our minds. Like most nostalgia, we look back and remember the times. To give everyone a taste of summer, this documentary seemed suitable.

The basketball documentary, On Hallowed Ground: Streetball Champions of Rucker Park, was deemed winner of the 2001 Sports Emmy: Outstanding Sports Documentary. Located on 155th St. & Frederick Douglass Blvd, Holcombe Rucker Park hosts the legendary summer Entertainer’s Basketball Classic (EBC). The documentary features players like, Malloy “The Future” Nesmith, Anthony “1/2 Man 1/2 Amazing” Heyward, Julius “The Doctor” Erving, Richard “Pee Wee” Kirkland, James “Fly” Williams, and Walily “Main Event” Dixon.
