If you’re in New York City tonight, it’s well worth your time you head up to Harlem to check out the opening night of EBC at Rucker Park. Playing in NYC for the first time in four years, Larry “Bone Collector” Williams will be joined by Rafer “Skip 2 My Lou” Alston and Darryl “Showtime” Hill as they take on the Angie Martinez All-Stars featuring Adris “2 Hard 2 Guard” DeLeon (2010 Nike NYC Player of the Year), “Jiggy” Josh Watkins and Jersey’s Finest. In an effort to raise awareness for the Maccabi Electra Tel-Aviv vs. New York Knicks game on Sunday, October 18th, all-star players from the Entertainers Basketball Classic (EBC) marched from 155th & 8th Avenue (Rucker Park) to 34th & 8th Avenue (Madison Square Garden). Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Migdal Ohr (Hebrew for “Tower of Light”), Israel’s largest orphanage since 1972.

The last game, played in 2007 between the two teams, made history; it sold out! That game was the most in attendance for an NBA or NHL exhibition game at the Garden!

New York City is the home of summer outdoor ball. There are several strong tournaments in New York – Gun Hill, Hoops in the Sun, Watson, Together We Chill, EBC, Kingdome, and others. Many long time tournament watchers would like to see all of them compete.

“Is this really the tournament of champions?” questioned NYC Pro/Am ref Eric Weaver. “This is only Nike sponsored tournaments. We’re missing EBC, Watson, there’s other major tournaments that have champions.” Read More »

Big shout out to EBC Commish Greg Marius.

I can't think of what year this was, but I do remember people coming to the Cage the next day during open run talking about the sickest dunk they had ever seen. This clip is ill and epitomizes streetball 100%--the underdog going at the top dog, or at least the man who revamped the dunk in the new millennium. Just peep the clip!

James Ryan’s Prime Time has battled to the EBC Finals 2009 by defeating top seeded in their division Angie Martinez, 91-80 thanks to patience and a supporting cast of players, while Coach Sean Oliver’s Team 914 survived a triple-overtime thriller against Hustle Hard (aka Brooklyn’s X-Men) and a close ten point victory over Coach Rah’s Sean Bell All-Stars at Gauchos Gym in the Bronx.

Both teams had contrasting seasons as Team 914 claimed the best record in the regular season compared to Prime Time’s sub-.500 record. Miguel “Miles High” Milien and Yatta Gaines lead the way for Prime Time versus a stacked Team 914 with Torey “Stix” Thomas, Aaron “The Problem” Williams, former Providence guard Donnie McGrath, and St. John’s alum big man Kyle Cuffe to name a few.

So, who take the chip tonight at 8:00pm tonight? The patient team with role players or the squad that rolls deep? It should be exciting as both sides play hard-nosed defense in addition to high-energy offense.

Get your seat early as security will be tight and seats will be limited!

(Monday, August 10th) They call him the “Don Corleone of Streetball.” In a match-up of veteran coaches, Bingo and his All-Stars battled James Ryan’s Prime Time in the first game of the playoffs for the Entertainer’s Basketball Classic for the summer of 2009. The score was neck and neck with each team exchanging leads throughout the first half. By halftime, the numbers did not lie: 44 even. Antawn “Anti-Freeze” Dobie and Yatta Gaines were going at each other in a duel. Both could not be stopped! Anti-Freeze relentlessly drove the lane and Yatta was Read More »
