At Dyckman Wednesday night, R2K/HITS took on Da Young Ones in what promised to be a goody with Da Young Ones’ Adris “2 Hard 2 Guard” DeLeon matching up against Hoops In The Sun star Dwight Hardy. But that hype fizzled pretty quickly.
“2 Hard 2 Guard” finished with 19, holding Hardy to just 9 points, despite a whole lotta minutes. Geddes Robinson led the way for R2K/HITS with 21, but it wasn’t enough as this one wasn’t even close in the end, with R2K/HITS being on the wrong side of a 72-56 final score.
“Secret Weapon” dropped 13 for Da Young Ones to help them advance to the second round where they will challenge Take No Prisoners (TNP). Read More »

Over the next 14 days, some of NYC’s fiercest competitors will bring everything they have to the asphalt and hardwood with one ultimate goal: winning the Tournament of Champions. The defense will be tougher, the shooting deadlier and you can rest assured there will be dunks that leave you in disbelief. Expect confrontations with refs and altercations with opponents, and if trash talk and physical play aren’t your things, you might be best off staying home. This is about pride, passion and perseverance and two weeks from today, only one team will be left standing on 99th and Amsterdam.
To chronicle the playoffs, bouncemag.com is creating “Road to the T.O.C.,” a blog designed to provide you with everything you need to know about the players, coaches and teams from Dyckman, Pro City, Tri State and West 4th as they vie for that ultimate goal. We’ll be there for the overtimes, the upsets and the buzzer beaters, and you will be the first to know about how it all went down.
Get ready, NYC. It’s going to be an unforgettable two weeks. Read More »

THE BRONX AND ORCHARD BEACH READY TO HOST HITS ALL-STAR 2009
NEW YORK, JULY 10, 2009 – New York City, a city with a reputation for producing some of the greatest professional and streetballers in the world, and Orchard Beach, considered one of the city’s sexiest venues for playground basketball, will combine to host Hoops in the Sun All-Star 2009, in which it will be a memorable one as the league is in celebration of its 10th Anniversary. CEO’s of the league, Joe and Randy Cruz, predict that the 2009 edition of All-Star play could surpass the 2007 edition of the mid summer classic.
The 10th Hoops in the Sun All-Star Game will be played on Sunday, July 19 at Orchard Beach, which will also host the 14 & Under and 16 & Under Youth Division All-Star Games. Additionally, Hoops in the Sun will announce the All 10th Anniversary Team, Greatest Games, Favorite Moments and much more. Read More »

Playground 101: “I have to take my man to the basket.”
The first thing you learn in any park that has serious run is the above words. St. John’s has gone back to basics, signing two playground All-Stars and sitting strongly in the cut with another. Former St. Ray’s standout Omari Lawrence and former John F. Kennedy Knight Dwight Hardy are tremendous scorers, while the fall-out move of the possible addition of Lincoln’s Lance Stephenson would bring the mechanics of the run-and-gun back to the Garden. Lance and Dwight are proven players against grown men in the parks of NYC and Omari has enough skill and AAU-Gaucho/Panther-city stuntman in him to be an effective wing finisher. The three added to Mason Jr, Justin Burrell, and Paris Horne have me hoping Norm Roberts will go uptempo to the fullest. So what do you think, should the Redstorm go 40 minutes of run and press to regain their past glory?
