The Pro Leather ‘76 OX “Vintage” in white/green, white/red, white/black are the pharmaceuticals Dr. Erving prescribed for my non-existent hops and marginal speed when I visited his clinic earlier today. All right, all right—only time in the gym will cure those ailments, but I digress. The premium leather uppers and weathered midsole on this batch of Pro Leathers is already makin’ me feel better, anyways!
The Converse Pro Leather ‘76 OX is available now in Japan and should be hitting Cons’ online depot soon.

The generous crowd over at Converse presented me with a pair of Weapon ’86 Mids a couple of weeks ago. I scooped an original white/purple eam pair several months ago on the down low, and couldn’t wait to draw comparisons. (I didn’t get home from school until last Thursday, placing me in an incompetent position for summoning up images)

In an attempt to recapture that ‘ol “championship attitude”, Dwyane Wade spent the 2008-09 NBA in his ’06 Finals MVP garb: knee-high socks, McDavid protective gear and his first signature shoe, the Wade 1. As such, Cons fabricated a “Playoff Special” version of the shoe that features a black nubuck upper and a red faux-croc embossed toe.

“Choose Your Weapon” is back! Yes, that’s right asphalt gods, twenty-three years after its original release, the Converse Weapon is slated to make a return to retail shelves this Fall, albeit it an updated format. The crafty folks at Cons Basketball incorporated an Air Sole unit out back to improve comfort for tiresome blacktop battles. Thankfully, the Y-Bar ankle support system, Chevron logo, and matching mudguard were carried over from the original ’86 joints.

As Converse’s momentous Century celebration dwindles down, I find it interesting that the brand has chosen to reinvigorate its technical “CONS”-style hoops line in ‘09. Worn by the superstars of yesteryear, the aforementioned division was made popular in the late 1980’s and well into the ’90s by Isiah Rider, Isiah Thomas, Bill Laimbeer, and a host of others. The first release from the stable is the R-001, an understated model that’s inspired by the Pro Leather ‘76, the Dumalis Mid, and Heatseaker Mid. (Two lesser known models form last year that I felt deserved a more burn!)The name to the 001’s game is customization, as the prominent midfoot support strap and the heel tab can be removed by the wearer depending on his or her preference. Undefoot, the shoe provides a double-lasted CMEVA midsole and a wicked, multidirectional herringbone outsole pattern. The R-001 is already available overseas, and you can expect to see it stateside sometime early next year. Images via The Converse Blog.
