The first time I saw these sneakers, I was in 10th grade reading a Slam Magazine during lunch, fell in love with them then and I still love ‘em. Who would have known six years later I would be an online writer at large for bouncemag.com? Now if only I can find a pair on Ebay.
On Wednesday, Lower East Scribe and I had the privilege of supporting support my mans Kool Bob Love at his Pro Keds Royal Flash sneaker release party. The party was off the chain with Kool Bob on the ones and twos. Very unique music I must say, way before my time, in fact, way before I was thought of. Check out the cool clip with interviews from Kool Bob, Dante Ross, DJ Clark Kent, me and more.

Kadour Ziani was here this Tuesday testing out the rims at the world famous streetball court, KINGDOME. As I made my way through Martin Luther King projects, I could see from a distance that he started his test runs by jamming the ball between the backboard and rim. Read More »
Ridiculous handle, contortionist dunks, trash talk, Blocks that send the rock into the stands and DJs are not the only form of entertainment on the streets of NYC in the summer. Every announcer has his own swag. Some have jokes, others are great at coming up with nicknames. AG gets the kids involved at halftime for dance contests. Joe Pope has the celebrity check in. Tazz has unlimited energy. Some announcers get the crowd involved or joke on the crowd. Craig banned jean shorts from 119th. Announcers play a major role and, in some cases, can be the X-factor that separates the good from the great. So, who is the best of the best announcers? Read More »
About a month ago, Bobbito, Casey Lee and I sat down for lunch at a Jamaican spot up by Bob’s crib in Harlem. The food was pretty good. The dialogue was even better.
Among the several topics we touched on was the most overrated player in the city. I know Bounce is in large part about spreading love, which I’m all for, but this query just seemed too intriguing to be left to three reporters sitting at a table on a hot Thursday afternoon.
I won’t list any of the names we came up with; however, I would like to pose the question because I think it could encourage serious debate: Who is the most overrated playground/tournament player in New York City?
Nike reps, Bounce familia and the fans of NYC summer ball had waited for this day the way Lil’ Dez does when he sits outside Kobe and LeBron’s apartment– uncontrollably bopping around in excitement, just waiting to see their heroes.
The 1 train, The Village, Hunter College and Harlem World have all been watching and waiting to crown the team of the summer. After months of players getting after it on all surfaces in all locations, the city finally got its wish this weekend. Read More »
This obscure demo was played on WKCR way back when. 20 Sides hailed from Toronto, Canada as Bobb so eloquently notes. Anyone have more information about these cats or a non-radio version of this “20 Questions” joint?
Yesterday, the West 4th St. Tournament staged their annual All-Star Game. As a member of the Gym Rats, myself and Rocco Rubino were selected.
I first played at the Cage in 1993 with coach Sid Jones’ United Brooklyn and saw limited time. I hit the hallowed ground again in 1997 with Panama’s crew and contributed a little more but no real highlights I can remember. This season, however, at the wonderful age of 42, I’ve connected on 50% of my threes (7 for 14) in the three games I’ve played, and have helped our squad to a record of 2-1 since I joined (we were winless before). I was amped when the tournament director Rick Johnson asked if I’d rock with them for the All-Star contest. No doubt!
I was hoping to see Mookie, Strick, Mike Campbell, etc. there yesterday. Read More »
