The SBL Countdown Deon Memorial Classic Sunday Basketball League is coming soon, 23 days to be exact. The tipoff is October 4, 2009. You can either submit a team roster or register as an individual. The league fee is $500.00 and the referee fee is $50.00. All games are on Sundays.

Although summer is coming to an end, indoor play on the hardwood is in full effect. The 14th Street Y Fall Men’s Basketball League will start up October 4th. The games will occur Sunday nights, but Saturday games may be necessary. It will cost each person $100 if you are a member of the 14th Street Y and $120 if you are not. The price includes referee fees, t-shirt, and entrance to all games, including the playoffs and championship.
The 2009 Chosen League Championship is coming to Chearshore Playground on Wednesday, August 26th at 8:00 PM. The fourth ever Boost Mobile Elite 24 HS All-American game comes to Rucker Park again this Friday, August 21. Harrison Barnes, Kyrie Irving, Doron Lamb, Tobias Harris, Tristan Thompson, Dion Waiters, on and on will rock out on the court while Brandon Jennings, Rajon Rondo, Tyreke Evans, Ron Naclerio, Tiny Morton and more will man the sidelines. The Dunk Contest will jump off at 5:30pm; game time is 7pm (broadcast on ESPNU Saturday @ 7pm). Entry is free; take the D train to 155th St.
Over ten former Elite 24 participants are now playing in the NBA, so understand the level of comp. I’ve had a lot of fun announcing the game since it’s inaugural year in 2006, and was recently asked by ESPN to list my ten favorite nicknames I’ve come up in the first three years (that I can remember at least!)

Jerry McCullough and The Jerry Ice McCullough Sports Education and Arts Foundation are proud to present the Battle of the Boroughs High School Basketball Challenge. Coaches Oliver Antigua, Moe Hicks, Lawrence Pollard, Ron Naclerio, George Ball, Jason Curry, and Cory Sempter have nominated the best basketball players from each borough to represent.
The Turning The Hearts Summer League Celebrity Game will be kicking off this Saturday at 5 PM in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania at the East Stroudsburg University Gym. Rucker Park’s Hannibal will be emceeing the event, and Coney Island’s Stephon Marbury will be host a clinic today and suiting up on Saturday. Other game entrants include: Kareem Reid (Bounce #11 cover subject), John Salmons, Demarr Johnson, and Rasaul Butler, with Darryl Dawkns patrolling the sidelines.
The league’s ‘09 All-Star Game will follow at 7 PM.

The 14th Annual Richard Willis Memorial 3 On 3 Basketball Tournament will take place August 15-16, 2009 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Gym in Staten Island, New York. The registration fee is $60.00 per team. 10 and 14 and Under Teams will play Saturday, August 15th while 12, 16 and 18 and Under Teams will play Sunday, August 16th. Since its inception, The Richard Willis Memorial 3 On 3 Basketball Tournament has made it possible to remember Richard Willis, a man who served local playgrounds around Staten Island, while providing funding for educational and medical initiatives.
