Everyone who came out to support the Fury vs. Bounce fundraiser for Taiwan’s typhoon relief efforts, which pulled over $1000 for the victims of Typhoon Morakot, got plenty of basketball drama for their generosity as the exhibition ended in a dramatic 52-52 tie. Well, as dramatic as a tie can be, anyway. Read More »

In 1947, three years before Earl Lloyd, Chuck Cooper and the Knicks’ Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton (and 52 years before Yao Ming set foot on NBA hardwood) the 5-7 guard who started at point for the two-time National Champion Utah Utes was not only the first non-Caucasian ever drafted but the first draft pick by the New York Knickerbockers. Big shout out to Jake “The Snake” Choi back in Seoul for coming out from Korea and running with the squad. It was just two weeks–and half the games got rained out–but in three games, the kid made a name for himself. Put in enough work in his two K1X Lower Manhattan Classic games against X-Men (College) and Gym Rats, 40 cal asked him to run in the K1X Manhattan vs. Brooklyn game at Rodney Park. Can’t wait to see 40’s highlight cuts. Both squads definitely repped.
Now with the finished story… Read More »

Been a long minute since the last entry but since that blowout loss to Half Man, Half Amazin’s Ice Tea squad, the team has bounced back well with two solid wins over Standard & Poor and X-Men (College) who went in at 5-1. Controlled both games from beginning to end, weathering 2nd half runs in both. Still a long way to go. More on that after the cut, but first to a little business… Read More »

Swamped all week prepping the Pan-Asian American Games basketball tournament so haven’t gotten around to last week’s action… I’ll get back to that… P.A.A.G. tourney is like an Olympics for the Asian American basketball circuit. Koreans get to play Chinese who get to play Indians, etc. First year running it, goes off this Saturday from 9:00-9:00pm and elimination round Sunday 9:00-6:00pm at MLK High School (122 Amsterdam Ave.).
Now-famous Taiwanese food truck NYC Cravings is gonna be there Saturday at 11:30am to sell their wares and support my Taiwanese team. Gotta rep for Illa Formosa. Come out if you want to see the best and brightest Asian ballers in the Tri-State or if you just want to try Taiwanese food. Read More »
