In these past two years, the New York City Basketball community have lost some great individuals. We loved each one of them as if they was our own family. This past week we lost Brooklyn’s Sid Jones, founder of the playground and streeetball basketball program United Brooklyn. Everyone I have spoken with said the same thing, “I just seen Sid the other day. Nothing looked wrong him.” Sid was more than a Basketball coach. Sid was a Mentor to many of the Basketball players in New York City including “Mookie” Thomas. Mookie wrote this piece not only for Sid Jones but for every person who played a significant role in the New York City Basketball community. Read it and comment it!

Bryan Smith is considered a “hidden gem” in many basketball publications. The senior from Midwood HS is not in the higher “AA” bracket of the PSAL and has not played on any of the high powered AAU teams in the city, but his 68 point outburst against James Madison HS, outscoring their entire team in 32 minutes of play, officially began the Bryan Smith watch. He’s averaging 28.07 points per contest along with 9.14 rebounds and 7.36 assists, now officially on the recruiting radar. Read More »

Micheal Deloach is not your ordinary “country boy.” Even though he is from the small town of Rocky Mount, NC located right off of Interstate 95, do not let his country vernacular or appearance give you the impression that he’s just a little guy from the country. His work down in the Greater NC Pro-Am has merited attention and although he stands 6 feet 0 inches tall and weighs only 175 pounds soakin’ wet with 4 dollars in quarters in his pockets, I got gotta give you a little warning about this guy: (screaming very loud) DO NOT LET HIS STATURE FOOL YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

The game that James Naismith invented in 1891 has been taken over by the “oohs” and “aahs”. The flair and flash the game of basketball possesses is cool but there is a “right” way that the game is “supposed” to be played. Playing the game of basketball shouldn’t be looked at as if you are studying for a Rocket Science Assessment Exam. This game is fairly easy. Better yet, this game is actually fun. Read More »

Time and time again, I often catch myself ease dropping on conversations concerning the state of New York City Street ball. I have been ear-hustlin’ for the past two to three weeks. One thing I have noticed about New York City and the game of basketball is that opinions do not matter, you have to let your game speak for itself. The Topic of Conversation for this week is…who’s the best guard in New York City?
This summer, the guard play in the city has been real crazy. I have seen with own eyes guards carry teams to victories and even gaining the respect from the hypercritical New York City street ball fan. The Big Apple is a guard laden city. There are so many names to mention. Read More »

Everyone remembers when Jay Z said: “Men lie, women lie, and numbers don’t!” Well there’s a backcourt that took the line and ran with it. Sorry for the copyright infringement Hovito but check the numbers between them: 50.7 points, 21.3 rebounds and 14.6 assists PER GAME! Allow me introduce them: John F. Kennedy’s Jeffrey Short and Naquan Pierce everybody! Read More »

The CEO’s of the 3 Stripes Campaign: (L to R) Blake “Bless” Henderson, James “Cali” Callaham & Jack “DJ TouchBasis” Tell
“Throughout our lives, we have developed a strong love for the Adidas brand. Not only have we fallen in adoration with the style, but the true belief that “Nothing is Impossible”. As supporters and faithful customers of the fashion and sportswear brand, we each have become a walking and true testament to the upstanding motto of the company. Despite our struggles, trials, and tribulations within our personal lives, we have persevered and overcome each obstacle presented, untarnished and with lessons and accomplishments to show. Because we truly have a connection to the originality and creativity that is the foundation on which your company was built, we have established a “3 Stripes Campaign.
During my collegiate tenure at Norfolk State University, I’ve encountered and interacted with many individuals from different states and countries. Fortunately, I got to know three guys: James “Cali” Callaham, Blake “Bless” Henderson and Jack “DJ TouchBasis” Tell. We interacted with each other until we all had the pleasure of walking across the stage on Graduation Day. Read More »
