I personally want to wish everyone in the Bounce: From The Playground, Dime, and Street Basketball community a Happy 4th of July!! I hope all of my playground family ate a lot of bbq, shared some laughs, and of course got some Independence Day basketball games going.

There is a growing concept that I’ve picked up on around the many parks and gyms that I visit to play basketball. It’s the idea that the only way to be an effective ball player, or to be considered “nice” is to score-A lot!

I’ve been hearing, more than usual lately, that a player is basically useless if they can’t light it up from the field. Now I understand that an exceptional scorer is always welcomed and even highly praised, but it got me thinking, “What about the other things?” You all know, the abbreviations ast, rb, stl and blk, that appear next to ppg in the stats column. Could someone that fills up all those categories be looked at as any less important, or even a worse player than a high scorer?

So, think about it…should the true measure of a player be based solely on scoring ability? Should we, as teammates and fans, accept a player that can shoot but do nothing else? Let Me Know!!
