Goodman League’s Miles Rawls shaking President Obama’s hand. Is the President about to play in D.C.’s premier playground basketball experience and blow up the cabinet?

A summer ago, current Secretary of Education and Hoop it Up Champion Arne”I wear ’80s shorts like Danny Ainge” Duncan rolled up with three Secret Service SUVs, laced up, and played on the pavement of D.C.’s Goodman League. My man Mac from D.C. didn’t know about his Harvard pedigree, and as Arn tossed the park up with his passing skills, the moment gave another solid chapter to the marvelous run that the league is writing in playground basketball history. And now another chapter turns for Miles and the Goodman – Enter the Urban Coalition League.

Before Arenas put in work, before Kevin Durant and Michael Beasley came of age and helped make the Goodman League arguably the best streetball league in the country, DC had the Urban Coalition aka “The Urbo” which took place during the summer at DC’s Dunbar HS, home of ex-NBA stars Muggsy Bogues, Reggie Lewis and Reggie Williams. It’s back now, as an indoor pro-am on the weekends to add to the hunger for all-week summer ball in the D.C. area.

Goodman League famed commissioner Miles Rawls aka “the man who talked trash to Obama,” is looking at this summer to bring back the legendary summer league. After speaking with Miles recently he said “the only hold up is where it will be held, I thought I had Dunbar locked down but the school is going under construction this summer, so I’m talking to Bishop McNamara about holding the league there, so stay tuned.”

Miles said he will have the high school league showcasing future college and pro stars in the morning, and then the main pro league attraction in the evenings. The D.M.V has always been a hoops hotbed, but with the return of the Urbo to go with the Hoop Magic, Kenner and the Goodman Leagues, the DC area will be the place to be this summer. Stay tuned for the updates on the official location time and schedule for the Urbo later this spring.

For those of you that don’t know how the hometown gets down for the playground bump check out this Durant mix from DC’s Mars Reel killin at the goodman league. Miles Rawls is on the mic.

Word is that one of the Goodman League’s premier teams is coming up from D.C. to play the third week in June in NYC.
