You See My Bounce Son?!!

You See My Bounce Son?!!Yeahhhhhhhh

This is a honest question to every bouncemag.com blogger, reader and fan across the world: How many of you guys have caught a dunk in a actual game?

Let me be the first to answer this question: I, Randy Millard, have not caught a dunk under the whistle during my day. I’ve dunked in the lay-up line, goofing around in the park or gym and in practice. But a dunk is only worth only two points at the end of the day, unless you’re playing in Dunker’s Delight in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, where it’s worth three.

Due to popular demand from one someone who commented on this:D-Wade on Sideshow Bob Yikes

While surfing the web, I was intrigued by an article on nytimes.com by Jonathan Abrams. The headline read, “For Some N.B.A. Players, There’s No Such Thing as a Slam Dunk”

The article makes you think about the position you play on the floor. There are some ballplayers who are great shooters, defenders, shot blockers, ball handlers and some who just play hard.

A dunk gets the crowd’s attention of course. You also can’t forget to mention the crossover, too, but the dunk is still worth just two points. Oscar Robertson, an N.B.A. Hall of Famer, has never dunked in a game. Kobe Bryant with his aerial attack ranked 51st last season in the statistical category of dunks with 59 while Vince Carter clocked in with 46 dunks, putting him at 67th.

I strongly suggest everyone should read this article because here is some food for thought from Oscar Robertson:

“The way it is now, it is a way of showing dominance by dunking the ball and patting your chest and opening your mouth. But in the end, can you make those jump shots, those 3-point shots? That’s what it takes.”

Randy, I been saying this for years in my hood, 2 points is 2 points dammit! When I was in high school going down the lane I dunked everything and anything that came off that rim was be put back, now that I’m a lil older I can do better dunks and jump higher but I refrain from dunking in games now cause a lay up is the same amount of points, why kill myself and almost get low bridged by everyone who cant jump when I can just take the easy deuce with the foul! NICE POST!

  3. kenny Patt says:

Was dunking till about age 28. Bad knees had me playing low to the ground ever since..

  4. Reignman40 says:

When i was 19 years old I caught a put bank off the rim one handed once and got goosebumps! I’m a 5′11″ white boy that jumps off one leg so that’s the only taste i got so far. I’d rather shake someone and pick up dimes now especially since i’m six years older now lol.

  5. Russ M says:

Coolest sh*t out was the way White Jesus approached it back in the day. The boy could jump out the gym but only dunked when it was on somebody! Everything else? Just a smooth finger-roll with his elbow at rim level.

  6. True balla says:

10th grade on real cat from queens named Donald Edge. Never forget it, RonRon came on the court and the ref almost gave us a tech, haha

  7. Kenny Patt says:

A dunk can really energise a team. If it was “Just” two pts, WNBA would have arenas filled every night. Who saw that Wade dumk on Varejo?

  8. illest says:

kenny….that wade on sideshow bob dunk was easily the dunk of the year.

remove that melo dunk and replace with wades.

  9. Bobbito Garcia a.k.a. Kool Bob Love says:

i once jumped from halfcourt and soared down the saucepan cabinet, catching a woof on three bigs below. The rim was nailed to a giant tree in the middle of a vast plain in Africa . . . I woke up from the dream buggin’ not knowing how it had been inspired cuz at that point I had never been to the motherland. crazy, right?
