Bounce Box

In light of my latest post for the coaches, I realize that there’re a lot of people out there with heavy hearts for the summer of 2010! I can speak on 101 issues in the streetball circuit, but this time around, I’m asking you the viewer to let us know at bouncemag.com your issues and thoughts on streetball this summer.

See, in order to fix a problem, you have to search for the malfunction. What are tournament directors doing wrong? What are coaches doing wrong? What is the press doing wrong (yeah, that includes us at bouncemag.com)? And last, but not least, what are the sponsors doing wrong?

I did this ’cause everyone who comes to this site to comment is passionate about this game. Even when someone takes shots at me, I love it ’cause at least it shows that you he loves this game enough to even care what I have to say.

Streetball should be united and not divided. Why fight with the tournament 15 blocks away from you when you can work together and make streetball better? Now is the time for everyone to vent, get your frustrations out. Even if you feel I’m the issue, I want you to go ahead and say it. All I can do is respect your opinion, but remember, if you throw fire at anyone in these comments, don’t be afraid to take fire back!

  1. Kenny Patt says:

Some weren’t as as organized as in the past. Seems to be politics at play as tourney’s are going head to head. To me, too many tourneys going on at the same time actually watered them all down to a degree.

  2. taz says:

I think the reason y streetball is the way it is because of the haters!! Some talk about the attendance in kingdome but the haters made it that way, and they know who they are!!! I feel the people at bounce, use false information and alot of the top dogs never show up to events!!! My frustrating is about something that was written about me by bobbito that was false, and sean who like to start problems between many people!!! I know my achievements with streetball and I’m not looking for any awards, but I don’t approve anything thats false!! Kingdome is a major tournament and if u haven’t been there this summer its ur lost!!!! Streetball will never be united cause it’s a sean and bobbito out there thats not stating facts!!!!!!

  3. Elliot Rosado says:

Streetball has taken a turn for the worst ever since Nike has got involved and that’s real talk.

  4. taz says:

@elliot, u don’t know what the hell u talking about, u have no streetball sense!!!! It shows u have no real knowledge about nothing!!! Streetball is like this because of the liars who going across seas and promoting and never showing up in NYC parks!!!!!!!

  5. Russ M says:

    There’s too many tournaments

POLITICS POLITICS POLITICS. The development of the game is gone. Everybody using everyone. The love is gone. The State of the Knicks the last 10 yrs. New Youth movement being stagnated by the old. Definitely the Haters. As time evolves things change and people have to adapt. Which isn’t easy. I mess wth you 40 because you speak & it comes from the heart. Which is genuine. Way different than a lot of the others in control or who have a say so. No access to gyms like in past. It’s so hard to get or find a decent run know a days. All the different AAU’s & not enough powerhouses. NYC itslef is the problem. We’re to divided as you see in the music business. Queens vs Brooklyn Manhattan vs Bronx/SI. Long Island and so on. You can’t say you love the game & do nothing about it. Hypocrites. You see what’s happening so change. PASS THAT TORCH. Help one & another to acheive the goals. Every man for themselves only works so long. We need to help & embrace the new crop talent so they can better the next gen of ballers. Remember now affects later & so on. Chain of events that could lead up or down. You chooose. 40 keep going. God bless this game we love. It’s sad but still love it no different.
Lastly someone take the iniative of correcting what concrete does to players health. We must make a change to soft rubber or recycled ball to soften the courts. Also Sebastian Telfair & Lance Stephenson isn’t the best NYC has to offer. Underlying problem. Not sure if you get it. Not their fault of not living up to expectations. 2 very good players.

Also give to the game don’t take from it. Respect the game that’s been here way before & hopefully will last on. Find the balance between the $$$$ & Game. The goal is to be the best person you can be on & off court. Remember our young one’s are wathcing. Where do you think they get the nonsense from?

  8. True balla says:

it has NOTHING to do with brands (Nike, K1X), Executives/reps (P.R., Oz, Cesar) or the amount of tournaments!! It is all about the PLAYERS, the bottom line is that the top flight talent is aging out and it will be a few years before there is enough talent to bring attention back to the leagues. I will still take Big Strick over 95% of the cities big men and he is almost 45!!! ALSO, when the young talent (Kemba, Devin, Sylvan, Cabby, C.Fish) gets to the league they have to come back to the city during the summer and bring their teammates. Thats what made it hot in the 90’s NBA guys going against streetballers. Ron vs 187, Steph VS Reem and so on. Tournaments used to fill up when there were rumors NBA players were coming through. That vibe is gone, but when it comes back so will the crowds the excitement and the sponsors. This upcoming summer looks bad though. I haven’t talked to anyone who is going to invest in tournaments

  9. Elliot Rosado says:

@ Taz, I never seen a grown A$$ man cry as much as you do. What’s your real beef let it out man. If somebody is writing lies tell us what they wrote so we can see if there facts are true. One thing for sure your not the top announcer in the city. That’s a fact and i thought you were boycotting yet your still here. This is probably the most attention you’ve gotten all year being that you didn’t get any this summer.

  10. fan says:

True balla you have to be older than me to say that. Sorry you feel like that. Problem is there isn’t any bigs in the league. How do you expect them to be here. NYC produces guards. Hopefully the young ones make it. It’s an uphill battle with these coaches, GM’s alike thinking of the old days. Chances are they wont make not because they don’t deserve to either. Omar Cook not in the league. Barrett getting cut this yr. Showtime Hill not even sniffing the D-League or overseas. Yatta not getting a summer league look. Looney Tunes is the word. Corey Fisher playing the 2guard in college. The Knicks not drafting B.Jennings. Steph losing his mind & game. Tinsley repping BK all day literally. Ty Brown,O.Cook,D.Barrett not panning out. Sebastian being drowned by hype & going to a bad situation a la Stephen Curry. Lenny Cooke never getting a chance. Question who are the remaining NYC players in the league young boys. Who are they helping to get to the league ??????? Every other city helps the next ones make it. Lamar,Skip,Royal,Charlie,Ben,Smush,Dre, calling all cars.

  11. Jeff of InsideHoops says:

A bunch of the people who run many of the leagues/tournaments, and a bunch of the sponsors behind them, seem to have no interest in promoting that their league/event even exists, and seem to have no interest in reaching out to people who can spread the word for them.

  12. Ahmad Payton says:

Stop praising these NBA rejects who come to your parks acting like they better than what they are. These clowns ain’t in the league for a reason. They have weaknesses. The same clown has to go get the towels and water for Kobe, Lamar, Artest and all the other real ballers if they even get the invitation to attend a NBA training camp. Give the new guys a chance. So what if u don’t know their names, respect their games. The dudes ya’ll treat like royalty still ain’t paying or sponsoring ya tournament, and they are not that good. Cut the BS and watch how successful things can grow in a positive way

  13. fan says:

Remember Beasley stopped by. B.Jennings/MWilliams JR Smith made a few appearances. Our players don’t seem to love the game or forgot what they saw & had growing up. Steph should have came out for a few because. Take some of our players and put them anywhere else and they’d be just as good possibly better. A lot of young players are in the league because of their counter part & vice versa. Will Bynum makes it easier for you to see Sheron Collins succeding in the league. R.Artest makes you think were all crazy. L.O. makes you think were all lazy. Skip makes you think were selfish and streetplayers and so forth. Someone has to break that cycle. GOOD LUCK

  14. Kenny Patt says:

For the game to be worldwide. NYC still reps the league very well. I dont why peopley sa we dont. There has to be a site that breaks down the ratio of where current NBA players are from. We have to be top 5.

  15. taz says:

@ elliot, get ur finger out ur a$$, Noone respect u or bounce and the real reason I’m here is because I’m getting message out! One bounce don’t count, and do me a favor check my resume im top of the city for 2 years straight! Come to kingdome next summer and u will see the man at work!!!

  16. fatcat from walton morris &creston basketball -ceo says:

  17. True balla says:

  18. raymond says:

not enuff promotion of the leagues, some people just wanna give out unis, get refs, put on games and thats it, sum just dont have love for their own t’ment, i know kenny stevens puts in 100% into dyckman, cruz bros puts 100% into HITS, they promote the hell outta HITS every summer and i think thats whats missin, t’ments need to promote themselves more, promote the players that participate in it, promote the sponsors that are involved, get fans to be involved and take advantage of the social networking outlets that are out now like FB, twitter etc…its gonna be 2010 and some tments look like theyre in 2005, i respect the cruz bros & kenny from dyckman cuz theyre all for their tment 24/7, ray diaz from pro city dont count cuz thats not his tment, its nike’s, mousey duno what he doin 60% of the time, u barely seen greg marius anymore, u barely see huncho from kingdome anymore, i see dudes from TWC and watson more on a daily basis…the passion and willing to commit to ur league on a daily basis is missing with sum of these CEO’s/tment directors, if u dont care about ur own league and dont wanna improve it, its gonna go down in flames

  19. The Brooklyn Report says:

I honestly suggest that there should be a March Madness format Tournament of Championship Tournament.NYC should be able to do that but its players and can they stay committed to one team.Streetball this summer was okay it wasn’t like the 90s and early 2000s.We need some unity amongst each other.Everyone plays a part in this movement. It shouldn’t who is the #1 announcer, coach or player of the summer. It should be about the fans and fans who travel all over to see their my man from the hood play or their favorite streetball player.Politics will weed out eventually.Sponsorships is cool but we need them to cater to the fans instead of their pockets.Fans are the reason why they make money.Lets hope for a better summer this upcoming summer

  21. Kevin Couliau says:

New York streetball is just a soap opera ! It’s just fun to read those few lines you wrote guys.
First of all, I’d like to know how many of you have ever been overseas and experimented streetball elsewhere than in New York City…I think you should all see how basketball and streeball is running out here in Europe or Asia, or Africa…
All of you guys are complaining, all day everyday ! But just realize that you’re in the mecca of streetball, no city in the world has so much basketball courts, no city in the world has so much players, no city on the world has so much tournaments…and you’re still not happy.

From what I’ve seen this summer, obviously New York streetball is a little bit disorganized, but that’s part of the game, I think the main stuff organizers should work on is the communication. Maybe some of them wants to keep it underground…but we’re soon in 2010 guys, come’on, World Wide Web ! do the promo , launch websites/blogs of your tourneys, update the scores daily, do real marketing shit to make it grow and then you’ll see some NBAers and VIPS showing up ( even if it’s not important), or even more international players !
Can you explain me guys why the only international streetball tournament is in Paris and not in NYC ? And sponsored by Jordan Brand ! ( your brand guys)

Obviously there’re lost of talents in nyc, guys like Yatta Gaines, Andre Barrett, Mike Glover…have a real level and could easily or already play in Europe best leagues (Barrett was playing in Barcelona)…because the NBA is a 300 men league …so we can’t put all the good players in it.

anyway I didn’t spend enough summers in NYC to say this one was better from the others.. but I can only say to the New Yorkers, Basketball magazines, brands, players…Streetball is the soul of New York, you have gold in the hands, it’s just up to you guys to make it grow.

And please, try to think on an international level, The basketball community and the world are watching !

  22. raymond says:

    to Kevin

this is what i wrote earlier
“promote the players that participate in it, promote the sponsors that are involved, get fans to be involved and take advantage of the social networking outlets that are out now like FB, twitter etc…its gonna be 2010 and some t’ments look like they’re in 2005″

so we def agree on sumthin….Hoops in the Sun promotes at nauseum, so does Dyckman, but not many others, EBC used to do it…those who promote go a long way, sum of these t’ments dont even have a website (pro city, tristate, west4th, watson, TWC,) so what does that tell you?

  23. The "A" says:

“Word of mouth” is the best promotion in the streetz of NY. It does’nt matter how many websites you promote on. The bottom-line is the crowds. If the streetz is talkin about your tournament, then people gonna show-up. EBC is the #1 attraction for NBA, NCAA & Overseas pro players to come to NYC. “Most” of the other tournament directors should stop prayin on EBC’s downfall because the EBC is your token to get in contact with those NBA & overseas players. You’ll never see Kobe, Lebron or Wade in Dyckman, Tri-State or any other NY street tournament. But they’ll come to the Rucker. According to the world, “EBC” is NY streetball, so why try to destroy the traditoin of what made NYC the mecca of Basketball. It’s also made yall the hard-workin commissioners that yall are today.

As a fan of streetball I think all the NY tournaments announcers gave the crowds some good commentating. NY seen alot of good competitive games over the summer. Dyckman, Tri-state & Watson was simular, did’nt feel comfortable with no real security. “Hoops in the Sun” you can bring your fam because it gave you a whole different feel & look at Orchard Beach. “HITS” announcers gives you a full understanding of who a player is and what he accomplished in “HITS” and in life, without the jokes. I heard Kingdome came thru at the end with “Taz” callin the shots.

NY NBA players did’nt come out that much this summer.
If NYC wants to see NBA superstars, then NYC have to come out ant support the tournment that will bring these guys to NY, and that’s the “EBC” point blank period. Once the word get out that the EBC is back poppin, you’ll see them dudes will start showin. NBA SUPERSTARS are not coming out for any of those other tournaments.

  24. huncho says:

how many of you guys ever ran a tournament , what makes a good tournament the most fans ,the sponsors, the nba players, the rap music,i didnt have sponsors the last two years and no rap music and still loved the way my league ran, i never liked the big crowds, i want you to be able to bring your kids ,wife ,your hold family to my games and get a good seat in watch a good game, we are not entertainment we are a basketball tournament. i dont invite all of the teams with the top players no more because i am trying to cater to the new and up in coming youngs stars and will not change nothing we are doing, if you so call street ball heads have seen the last two years we have had the best championships and for those who havnt seen them hit me up and you can get a copy but its not free lol but you are right i dont promote my league and the players please go see the knicks my dude. but you can come to my park and feel safe and get a good game, and i am at all my games its not about me so why would i have to walk around so you can see me wow. anyone wants to see me ask someone in the park i am not hard to find. so to raymond we want miss you this at the games this summer.
