Name: Troy Dean
Nickname: The Myth
Ht: 6’1
Wt: 200lbs
D.O.B. 9/23/77
Hometown: Madison, Wisconsin
Position: Combo Guard
Why do they call him The Myth? Could it be that perhaps the Daze Streetball player/owner brags game mostly found in that non-ball state with the Big Cheeseheads? Yeah…Wisconsin…where its supposedly cold like all the time and nobody plays ball outside of Milwaukee. Pfff…Street basketball is an EPIDEMIC and growing!! Even a state not known for ball, like Wisconsin, has playgrounds and ballers galore.
Okay, okay…even though, hoop heads and historians alike cannot always vouch for Wisconsin in the past, we must look to the present and the future state of streetball. Right now, the dude called the Myth is putting the area on the map, making an impact in the community, and earning a place in history while doing it.

Troy Dean shares a list of accomplishments comparable to cats who stay on their grind with 50 projects at a time! Take a look at some of Dean’s achievements over the years:
Accomplishments:
-Daze Streetball: player/owner
-Semi-Professional basketball player (2 years): Wisconsin Blast
-Made the Fort Wayne Fury (before the CBA went bankrupt)
-AND 1 Mixtape Tour player: Chicago, 2003
-AND 1 Mixtape Tour Open Run Finalist: Milwaukee, 2006
-Hosted the 1st Daze Streetball All-Star Game: July 2007
-Wisconsin Badger Halftime Show: Nov. 20, 2007
-Mad-City Man Show performer: Dec. 8, 2007
-Title Town Tip Celebrity 3pt. Shootout: 2007 & 2009

Troy Dean earned his stripes on the blacktop by playing at damn near every playground in Madison. Since his hometown was not enough competition, Dean decided to take over the state! During a three year span, he entered his squad in 3-on-3 tournaments all over Wisconsin and continued to dominate wherever they went. Think Sega in 1992 when Mortal Kombat came out: flawless victory!

and to think this was only the beginning…
In 2001, Troy was dubbed Showtime for his dribbling finesse in a tournament against former Wisconsin guard Roy Boone (who was on the Badger team that made it to the Final Four in 2000). When he nailed 9 straight 3-pointers during one game, a light broke through the clouds, and a new moniker was born. People who did not know Troy kept calling him “The One” (Who Did This or That). The name stuck until he met soon-to-be Daze member Jesse “Snake” Muench — a basketball freestyle fanatic.
Snake asked Troy what his name was or how he was most known in the hoops circuit. When Muench heard this story, the word spread from fact to fiction or better yet from truth to Myth…
“…that name came about from [my cousin] who talked about me jumping over 6 kids in a dunking contest in high school. Then it turned into a myth [about] jumping over as many as 10 kids.”
For the record, Dean leaped over five people. The court erupted after few having witnessed a scene like this before. After the throw-down, it might as well been both teams under the basket!
If his basketball resume is not enough, not to mention daily runs on the local playgrounds like James Madison, White Tail Ridge Park, and many other through Madison, Troy put in work in the community. He helped to raise over $3,000 for the John Klang Memorial at the Weston School. Also, Myth has put together a number of fundraiser events in 2008 and 2009 for varies groups such as the Boy’s & Girl’s Club of Sauk County and other Community Centers, such as the Dane County Salvation Army, and Madison Area Libraries.

As Troy Dean passes along basketball courts in the Midwest, he is known as the Myth but for his contributions to the community, (no disrespect to Paul Pierce) he will be remembered forever as the Truth…

Nice article, Casey!
That lead-in picture w/ Dean was taken in the Warner Park courts, literally 5-7 minutes from my house. There’s never anything good going down there when I used to drive by it though…

Thanx Casey, As far as pix from my semi-pro days I’ll try to dig some pix up from my parents house.. Yes Warner Park is given a bad rep these days but I can sill get some good runs and ruff play in lol…. As far as video… the one team I played for has/had a bunch of legal issues so everything owned by the team can not be given out and that’s the most I can say about the issue…

If you publish some pics of you with the pro teams (in game pics or roster pics) or a video (Not sure why a teams video from over a decade ago for a defunct team that no longer exists would not be able to be shown)then we will believe you actually played on the Wisconsin Blast. But from the video’s of you it just doesn’t seem believable you would be on a CBA team. It’s great what you do for the community and entertaining…just not sure about the whole semi-pro ball thing.
