Ali is that dude i can relate to most. I also like Sean Couch.

Madmark (Young Boy Rah Rah talk all day) says:
I can’t believe you would ask this question, I respect it but talk about droppin your left hand while you throw an overhand right. Can I answer in the negative? (Sean Couch, Bobitto) Gotta be there to have a say!
Sorry, getting back to the question,
Up until he lost his mind the other day I would have said 40 Cal but there’s a little too much over the top venom, that’s ok for posters but not for Journos. Casey is good but a little bit too laid back and a little bit too “PC” and sometimes doesn’t spit actuals. I guess since it sounds like I’m on that Little Red Riding hood kick Ali would be my fave writer, his pieces are the most professional but sometimes his hyperbolic retorts are on the corny side. This is after all streetball not a high society Equestrian event. I like his “The Playground Gave Us” series” even though some of his selections are questionable at best.
Is it a policy that all writers at Bounce must make at least one hip hop reference in every story they do? I’m pumping that Blueprint 3 right now but it has nothing to do with what I’m writing.
Maybe if I said: I run this town cause I’m in that Empire State of Mind you’d take me more seriously? I doubt it!

Bobbito Garcia a.k.a. Kool Bob Love says:
my favorite guestblogger right now is actually kondo moussa. dude writes very sincerely and his daily reality in bamako, mali (africa) is entirely different that any of ours. i also miss nhamo shire’s guestblog from the uk. hoping to get him back on this one day.
i don’t know who put up this post from our office, but i think it’s a good question to ask. as the person who has recruited all of the guestbloggers you see here, i’d say i’m proud of all of them and each brings their own flavor to the table. 40 Cal has heart, Casey stays on his grind, Trevor is the most well-trained, Jon Lopez has depth but with light humor, BallGurl has flavor, Jeremy Ripley is a scientist, Kevin Couliau has the EYE, Randy Millard has Brooklyn, Ramon Diaz is on the come-up.
the two writers i most enjoy reading are ali and lower east scribe. they have the best combo of street flavor with academic sensibilities. articles always have a unique voice and punch with rhythm, with little original phrases and slang. they remind me the most of me and sean’s (co-founders of bounce) style.

ali says:
@ madmark, my heart swells with fondness as i digest your benevelont word usage regarding hyperbolic retorts. perhaps we can inhale some equestrian events together, followed by some water polo and squash. and remain alert for the next installment, the playground gave us dave corzine.(LOL!)
my vote goes to 40 cal. you might not agree with what he says and, at times, he does veer into some venemous territory, but there’s no question that he speaks from his heart. gotta love that.
September 23rd, 2009 at 2:48 pm
Madmark (Young Boy Rah Rah talk all day) says:
Ali,
Dave Corzine (LOL!) I had to Bing that one, Google is too slow for that reference. You definitely went all Dennis Miller on me, don’t laugh about that Squash thing, there’s a brand new Squash court right across from the Kingdome.
I like my man 40 Cal too but did you happen to read his summer recap Part 1? He sounds more upset than Bernie Madoffs victims. I’m afraid that Part 2 might make the Teabag Protesters look like the Amish(how’s that for an obscure reference?) Take That Ali! (LOL)
September 23rd, 2009 at 3:46 pm
ali says:
you got me madmark! and i know 40 cal bugs out on himself sometimes, but there’s something to be said for folks who honestly talk about how they feel. there’s no political correctness in his meanderings. and i dig that, though i don’t agree with some of what he says. i’d rather have a dude tell me he’s a racist than to front in my face, then hide behind a white sheet at night, nah’mean. at least i know up front where he stands.
September 23rd, 2009 at 3:54 pm
D. Browne says:
I think 40 is dope although he does wild out sometimes. Bobbito is cool to because I feel like he gets personal with it. But overall my favorite gotta be Jon Lopez because his articles get better everytime I read them. He steps his game up every time and lately hes been adding more pictures which is key for people like me who can’t get to games.
September 23rd, 2009 at 4:02 pm
ali says:
yo madmark, the teabaggers and amish comparison is hilarious. so who’s going all dennis miller?
September 23rd, 2009 at 5:03 pm
Madmark (Young Boy Rah Rah talk all day) says:
Ali,
I agree with you about 40 and the passion thing BUT, if Im a reporter and want to get a story, I’m not going to take the guy with arms flailing, a bloody nose and black eye as serious as the guy who’s more calm and rational.
(I don’t work for FOX.)
And about Dennis Miller,
When I was like 10 Dennis Miller was a funny struggling liberal comedian who sent me to the thesaurus more regularly than my mom sent me to my room. Right after 9/11 he went far right and his career took off like Nate Robinson wearing his SuperNates. I used to love deciphering the old liberal DM jokes. He inspired me to try to be a writer now he’s just a prick.
September 23rd, 2009 at 5:41 pm
ali says:
i hear you madmark, i’m not saying that 40 cal is a reporter or journalist trying to crack watergate, he’s just a dude sharing his thoughts and experiences around hoops.
but as a reporter, you want to talk to BOTH the calm and bloody nose dude to make sure that you’re getting different sides and angles, a more complete picture.
and i see that dennis miller has served you well. as a kid, i’d circle every word i didn’t know when reading the ny times, then look it up. not the same as dennis miller, but similar. and btw, judging from our brief interaction, you’ve got some writing skills, so keep at it. you might have found your calling.

jaysmoove says:
is it wrong to have more than one favorite ?
i got my top 3 that are the reason i Stay focused on Bounce
Ali: His blogs are on point and I learn things from every single one of them and he also bridges the gap between the playground and pro basketball. alot of people my age and younger can learn alot about players from his blogs
The two others that i can relate to is bobbito and sean couch
September 23rd, 2009 at 6:49 pm
Sean Couch says:
I think we have an excellent team with real style and strong, positive opinions about the world of playground ball.
The site has strong insight and shows that we can hit from deep and slice through the lane for the board clap.
At the end of the day, what counts is if an opinion can be given and taken by the forum and Bounce does it like no other site on the planet.

Vern says:
I have to say my man 40 cal was the best this summer. Dude came from the heart with everything he reported and said. This dude does not care for the politics in streetball as I’ve seen this summer. 40 and I always be building on this streetball basketball all the time and he is not afraid to say when you’re right nor if you’re wrong, right Paul Rivera (Do right next time as Karma is a B***h), HAHAHA. Anyway, shout out to 40 cal and the rest of the Bounce Mag Squad who do their thing at the end of the day.

Casey Lee says:
Thanks for the critique Madmark!
College messed up my creative writing skills and I’ve been trying to get back into my zone that I once had in HS after I read Rick Reilly’s book. Still finding my groove like Trajan Langdon…
Anyways, my favorite writer: LOWER EAST SCRIBE. Hands down. I used to have a writing style similar to his. Terrance displays: uniqueness, clarity, and word choice.
Other Bounce writers:
————————–
*Sean & Bob – experience
*40 – passion
*Ali – wisdom
*Antonio – fuego!
*Ballgurl – triple-threat (player / coach / writer)
*Gerald – open-minded
*Jeremy – fashionista
*Kevin – focus
*Kondo – pride (in his nation)
*LES – creative
*PRC – networker
*Ramon – work ethic
*Randy – (Brooklyn my a**! HAHA…) insightful
*Ren – talent
*Trevor – reporter

Madmark (Young Boy Rah Rah talk all day) says:
Ali,
Thank you very much for that shot of adrenaline, that’ll keep me going for a while. That, plus these professors that look at a kid from the BX who’s Icegrillin em, with my “Hat To The Back” that quotes C.S. Lewis and Howard Stern in the same sentence. Their disdain for me is fuel for my fire.
I did forget all about Lower East Scribe, His style is a little more vanilla than yours but he also paints a nice picture.
I know Sean thinks I hate him but, when he writes about events he was actually at he’s not that bad. Like his post about the top moments in Streetball over the last ten years. He was totally wrong but at least he tried to paint a credible picture.

40 cal says:
Big shot out to everyone on bounce and my favorite list goes like this and please no one get mad at me, I share the same love for everyone on this blog the same.
1. Ali, Ali always takes us back in time and reminds us of everything we forget.
2. Case Lee, Always on the scene, very smart with politics and always thinks before he does things. (unlike me at times) and is Very versitile, the guy takes great photos and give’s out great articles.
3.Lower East Scribe, He has the best in depth articles I have seen on side with Casey and Kapp
4.Kapp, Outspoken and will let you know how he feels about a player whether He’s garbage or quality and he sticks to what he says all the time. I may not agree with him all the time but his thoughts are respected by me at all times.
5.Couliau, One of the best photographers in the city hands down.
6.Randy, Someone needs to sighn him as a cameraman in the NBA.
7.Ball Gurl, She’s busy right now doing her coaching thing but hopefully she will rejoin us this summer, her knowledge of the game is very vital.
8.Jon Lopez, this guy is a real underdog but I got the feeling this guy may move on to bigger things in the future, his editorials are flawless.
9.Ren, Me and Ren go back to Jr Knicks 2001 when he was a coach and I used to drop about 30 plus points a game, the man knows the game very well and his team could turn out to be a perennial powerhouse in the city, don’t sleep on the Asians.
I think I get a little crazy myself sometimes but if I don’t voice my opinion then who will. See people don’t understand all the stuff that goes on behind the scenes, pretty much I haven’t exposed the worst of the worst and have just given you guys a taste of venom, matter fact more like a drop of venom, If I was to let the whole truth go and nothing but the truth I guarantee a lot of jaws would drop, people have been manipulating streetball for years all I’m trying to do is bring a light on the good and the bad, I’m exposing flaws now so people will step there game up, I don’t want to see one tournament worldwide go to waste cause every league brings something special to the table but if we don’t stop with the B.S were going to be in for a rude awakening. That goes for everything from politics to violence, I just want to make one note, with all the violence that has gone down this year has anyone not had the thought in there head that city officials are watching our every move, just to let you know I know a couple of politicians who work in city hall and they are watching us all, they even read our blog at bouncemag.com on a daily basis.

1) case i know what you’re saying about college making you write like a robot.
2) i’d like to point out that i helped discover l.e.s. saw his piece on castro and immediately hit bob up about bringing him on.
3) personally, i’m a fan of jeremy’s work. it’s not nyc related, but he’s got good craft and a smooth style.

BallGurl says:
I really, really love this post!! Props to the author…
Bouncemag.com is made up of an excellent team of writers. Each player has their own swag, and all bring something different yet integral to the table.
Kool Bob and Sean are my favorites: They’re the Pee Wee Kirkland and Walter Berry of this writing game. Chips, street cred, entourage, the whole nine…
Ali’s up next: I’ll call him Joe Hammond. “The Destroyer”, nuff said…
Killa Kyle Henry: Headache Gittens. He has superb talent and an unmatched work ethic. Brings success to whatever he touches but still manages to be underrated…
Antonio: Eric Opio. A sniper with the pen and pride in his hood…
LES, Randy, J-Lo, Casey, 40, myself, etc: Dancy Power aka Sean Bell bka DDN. Our signing to the Bounce fam has basically put a strong arm on NYC. We also win tournaments all over the world because we’re the best mix of upstart talent, experience, and exceptional coaching.

Trevor, is by far the best reporter. Take nothing away from the other reporters but Trevor’s writing skill are far superior to anyone else on the site. When I read a story about a game I want the reporter to make me feel like I was there, and with Trevor he gives you the details on the players, the crowd and the atmosphere. He has the skills to make some good $$$ writing in the future. Also he is a cool dude.

(LAC) Lennox Ave Crew says:
Overall, I think all yall do a good job. I think that Bounce is just what we need especially in NY, so everyone can voice thier opinions. This is minds. 40 Cal does it from the heart. Not saying that the rest of you guys don’t, but yall know alot of foul corporate sh@t that’s going on in streetball, yet only maybe 2 of yall got the heart to post it. Not only that, but I actually seen 40 Cal at the D&D Invitational in Queens taken pictures for Bounce on a Tues-nite as a intern. And he did’nt have to be there that night. Inside Streetball was also there filming games. I think Bounce should be more direct with all issues, not just some. Blow-up spots and keep it raw, but don’t be out of line. You’re never out of line when you Blow-up spots and it’s the truth.
Remember 40-Cal, it’s political.

D. Browne–
are you Jon Lopez’ co-worker at the boys club? haha
Illest/LAC-
the reduced pages of our last couple of issues is simply a result of the economy. there is obviously more than enough stories to be covered. we’re hoping to get the print edition thick again in the future. we’re definitely working on that.
props to everyone for chiming in on this. i’m thinking next year we should have a full with me, sean, 40 cal, jon lopez, casey, etc. versus mad mark, illest, elliot rosado, kenny patt, jaysmoove, old yella, etc.
y’all down? i think it’d be mad fun and would finally allow everyone to put a face to a name. mad mark can guard sean! haha! no one from the commenters needs to guard jon lopez, though. he hasn’t hit a jumper in oh about five months . . .

I also enjoy/ed Ballgurl’s posts. What the hell happened to them?!?
On another note, I’d love to see more Feet on the Street and Leg 2 Pieces columns
September 24th, 2009 at 5:00 pm
BallGurl says:
@ Teddy “Doowop”
LoL and Thanks for the love. It’s most definitely appreciated.
As stated above by some of my fellow guestbloggers, I have a new job as a college assistant. It keeps me very busy and unfortuantely my posts have become few and VERY FAR between. Haha!!
It isn’t that I’m not attending events or doing interesting things with the roundball anymore because that’ll never stop. Free time is a rarity in this industry and when I get it, I find myself not using it to blog.
I apologize to all of our readers for the slight. Don’t fret, however. I’ve been gone for a minute, but I’ll be back with some REALLY good stuff in the near future.
Peace

Great post Kapp! It’s great to get feedback from our readers man. Anyway, my favorite on the site is Ali. I think we share a lot of the same qualities but his may be a little bit more refined than mine. I really enjoy reading everything he writes.
I really dig Casey and Trev’s game coverage. They deffinately have an old school reporter feel with a new school delivery.
I 40 cal is out of his mind and I love every minute of it. Haha, he’s like our Dennis Rodman or Ron-Ron cuz he’s so real with it. He honestly just don’t give a (your explitive here) about what anyone thinks. He gets so hype and passionate, he’ll write a whole paragraph without any regard for the English language (I’m talking no punctuation at all son!)
The best thing about our squad at Bounce is the mutual respect and love we all have for the game. People really enjoy and respect what we do and that’s dope. We all have our own talents that like Ballgirl said, help us keep the game on lock.

KHenry says:
I like what everyone brings to the Bounce site. It helps me get through my 9-5 gig.
Trevor, is very talented and I happy to see him do his thing with the NYC Blog this summer.
BallGurl, is the real deal. You would be hard pressed to find anyone that knows and loves streetball more than her. She knows the game in and out (She also coaches on the collegiate level) and she brings knowledge of the womens game as well.
Randy, brings passion to his writing. Get’s anywhere he needs to be to watch a game, all on a metro card. And he reps Brooklyn!!!
Ali, I always enjoy reading what he writes, Especially his “The Playground Gave Us” series. That Kenny A piece was fish grease hot.
PS- With all the talent on the Bounce scene I gotta step my game up. Look for more write ups from KHenry in the near future.

Jon Lopez says:
Bobbito is a bona fide hater! Thanks to everyone who enjoys my writing, I really appreciate that. It is good to know what people feel about the work we do. It’s also motivation to keep bringin’ the heat.
Bob, a game sounds like a great idea. Why wait a year? We may be able to organize a run in a gym or even outside while the weather is still good. Either way, I’m down.
Lower East Scribe reps LES so I put him among my elite Bounce bloggers, oh and he can write a helluva piece too. 40 Cal keeps it thorough and I’ll count him from the 6th Borough too, so he’s up there. I’m actually disqualifying Sean and Bob from this list on the grounds that they are founders of the magazine; that’s not even right – I do have love for ya’ll though, haha! Ballgurl knows the game and presents it well in her pieces, she’s in the starting 5 too. Ali’s posts usually draw the most comments and I agree with what everyone else said about his style, so count Ali in on that list. Honestly, there are no Bounce bloggers whose work I don’t appreciate so I’ll reserve the final spot in the starting 5 for every blogger on the site who loves the game and takes the time to share what they’ve witnessed with the rest of the world. Good Stuff!
