Who is your NYC Summer Player of the Year?

Summer of ‘09 is a wrap. Tri-State declared Lil Rah’s Sean Bell All Star’s the champions on a forfeit. Last time a major tournament went out like that was the Terror Squad vs S. Carter EBC forfeit back in ‘03. A straight-to-video account of the drama is available now for those who want to listen to Joe flow about how he always comes correct for the big moment.

Dyckman saw a chip played on 2/3 of a basketball court because of the “no-one-denied-access-to-the-chip-pass.” Dyckman remains “hood-deep,” as the song – “Shook Ones” – gets FunkFlex rotation uptown for those who understand what I’m saying…

St. John’s bound Dwight Hardy won two player of the year awards at Hoops in the Sun and Tri-State respectively, while Italian League star Sundiata Gaines had a strong summer too, winning the MVP at EBC and dominating at Pro-City. Adris “2 Hard 2 Guard” DeLeon closed the summer out at the Nike TOC like a terrorist on a mission, showing that he belongs among the elite scoring guards in summer city ball.

Ty “The Negotiator” Grant killed at Pro-City, but the knock on him is that he doesn’t do asphalt.

The rest of the candidates under consideration are James “Stixx” Williams, Junie Sanders, Darren Phillip, Corey Fisher, Quinton Hosely, Mike Glover, Miguel “Miles HighMillien, Kemba Walker, and Kiwan Smith . Tell us who your top dog is.

I MIGHT BE BIAS BUT IM GOIN WITH TY GRANT. WITHOUT HIM ON THE COURT, NOTHIN AGAINST DP, NIKE 1 LOSE BY 30 IN TOC. HE IS A HARD COVER AND HE TALK SH.. THE ENTIRE GAME. I HEARD NEXT SUMMER HE WILL PARTICIPATE IN ALL 4 TOP TOURNEYS TO PROVE A POINT. HE ALSO CLAIM HE WILL WIN THEM ALL. THE TOP 6 PLAYERS ON NIKE 1 PRO CITY TEAM WILL JOIN HIM. HE WILL ADD A COUPLE GREAT PLAYERS LATA. THIS WAS THE TALK AT TOC. LOOK OUT FOR THAT CAUSE I WILL SEAN COUCH. HEARD HE ALSO GOT SPONSORS ON DECK FOR THIS “SUPA TEAM”

  2. sure says:

Mike Glover. Say what you want. He gets it done and is still finding himself.(Future Pro in my eyes) If Miles High plays w/ a point guard he’ll look like KMart in NJ. Kemba & Corey are always a pleasure too see up close. DP/Junie/TY what more can you say. If that’s how they produce on the decline (Speechles). The up & comers should appreciate their body of work. Dwight Hardy has a pro game. He makes everything look easy. He is a richard hamilton on steriods in the making.
He picked the wrong college though. Unless Stormin Normin lets him go. Could you imagine a line up of Lance,Hardy,Mason,Burrell,J.Famous. New York would be back in the building. T2 is a pro. No if’s and or but about it. He could produce like Pietrus,Barnes, and Chandler. If given a chance. I must say I’m satisfied with Adris choice. He has great character and mean game to go with it. If he picks up his d and learns the 1 position he could star on a National team soon enough. Shout Outs to the one only Teacher Antifreeze Dobie. The consumate professional. Could of easily won 2 back to back. Yatta Gaines still isn’t signed. We should boycott. No one buy league pass from NY unless. LOL.

  3. Sean Couch says:

Ty is the toughest individual match up in the city right now. It would be good to see him take it outside.

  4. Russ M says:

Watched Ty,Franchise,Sticks, Gary Ervin and DP lose in the semis at W.4th last month. Ty didn’t play with them at W. 4th regularly throughout the summer?

  5. Pete says:

The Guys that were named are amazing players. However we can add some names to that list. There are guys like Smush Parker, Mike Haynes, Mike Campbell, Tommie Eddie, Sean Danztler who had an amazing summer as well. We can also add Chris Wehye to the list as one of the best slashers in the city.

  6. Sean Couch says:

Didn’t see him Russ at West 4th this summer, how did he play when you saw him?

  7. Trevor Kapp says:

ty played in two games at west 4th and they were both in the playoffs and looked solid. beyond the fact that he actually told me this, it’s obvious just from his movements that asphalt isn’t his thing.

  8. raymond says:

dwight hardy, gary erving, steve burtt jr, stixx williams, jessie sapp, scott machado, kirk williams, kenny satt, dre barrett, primal fear, adris, optimus prime, kemba, cfish, cab driver….

  9. Sean Couch says:

Gary Ervin is a tremendous player, I look forward to watching him play once he irons out which teams he should play for. Barrett and Satterfield are steady, while Adris went to another level with Miles High…

  10. Madmark (BX all day) says:

Who is this guy Sean? Have you been to an outdoor game this decade? Where the hell do you watch games? Don’t you think you gotta be the best baller on your team to be player of the year? That knocks 5 off the list right away. No dout my man T2 is a great player but he had a weak ass summer (Keep it real) You also can’t be P.O.Y. if you don’t lace em up outside. NEXT!!! I can’t believe you left Serious Satelite off this list, he won both Tournament of Champions Tournaments and got raped at Dyckman and can still win Kingdome. Adrees is the man but P.O.Y? For NIKE tournaments sure, but this summer cha buggin.

  11. Madmark (BX all day) says:

Damn I hit the button before I was done. I been going to games for five years now and still the BX gets no love. Some other points, Hardy without Rah Rah is a 15 point a night guy. Adrees busted his ass at Dyckman, as Joe Pope would say Lighty Done. If you don’t believe it go see my man Sherm, he be at all the games and got that dope for all us streetball heads. The BK is looking real old, they need some new blood for sure. Adrees for NIKE POY ok fine, but there are at least 5 cats that put in more work.

  12. B-X says:

    1st European ever 720 !!! More under http://www.speedballin.net

  13. e says:

Gary Erving had a great summer i was eager to see him after he dissapointed last summer but if this kid continue to improve i dont see why he cant get a call from the league and move up from the nbdl

  14. e says:

    Gary Ervin
had a great summer i was eager to see him after he dissapointed last summer but if this kid continue to improve i dont see why he cant get a call from the league and move up from the nbdl

  15. Sean Couch says:

Ervin has speed and likes to ball hawk. He has to work on separating himself from defenders off the dribble in the mid-range along with being a consistent knock-down jump shooter.

  16. Sean Couch says:

    MadMark –

My man, I gotta apologize to you because for some reason your post got locked off the site and I went checking through and got it back up…

Championship level play is the measure of a great player. There are players that can get 50 against your block team and your boys and then have to go up against a real defender and spend their time looking at the ref for a call. You know what I’m saying..

That knocks a few of your people off the list right there.

This summer, I’ve been to West 4th, Dyckman, Together We Chill, Pro-City, Tri-State, and Kingdome. I’ve been covering this for years and I know the game in and out. Can’t come at me like MadMan, I’ve won chips at Dyckman and EBC as a player, coaching chips at Pro-City and Dyckman.

I used to sweep the court and pick up broken bottles on the court at Dyckman when I was a kid, your buggin…

Big time performers, rise up and hit jumpers against the best when it counts in front of the biggest crowds in the summer during playoff time. Kenny Sat has done it, Reem Reid has done that, Mike Campbell has done that, Junie Sanders has done that, Ant Glover and many others so I don’t have nothing to say about them.

Adris has played well and has proven himself as dynamic playground force in New York. He did it against the best players in the city this summer and you can’t hate on that.

  17. Bobbito Garcia a.k.a. Kool Bob Love says:

molloy ‘the future’ nesmith had a great summer at tri-state, should be recognized.

adris is continously improving, still needs to help his teammates become better players, otherwise he is a iverson or nate robinson type, basically a two guard trapped in a pg frame. nothing wrong with that, but i have the sense that when adris puts his mind to it, he will be able to still get 30 and add 12 assists to that. as for now, i haven’t seen that, yet, and that may be the one thing that prevents him from going next level in the winter.

who is the best kick out point guard in new york? think about that. most dudes are great going to the saucepan, but how many are court aware and see the rest of their teammmates?

sean dantzler is a great shooter because his x-men crew know where to find him for his shot. he never has to dribble to score. that’s team basketball, on the playground, a la dominican power and tnp. playground is simple–ball movement and full court pressure wins games. it’s worked for the harlem rens, the sun devils, riverside, you name it.

  18. Madmark (BX all day) says:

Sean, I aint doubtin your creds, I’m doubtin your judgement. I got love for you and the dedication that all the Bounce staff has but that list is crazy political. What tournament did T2 kill in?
Where did you see P.O.Y. type games from Junie, Stix and Miles High? I’m just keeping it gully. How can you put Junie, Miles High and Stix on any list and not put on the Franchise? He gotta be forty and he’s still puttin in work. You left off Total Package who also had better season than the BK cats. Sean, I seen you once at Dyckman, I saw Casey, 40 Cal and Kev on the regular, They should have done this list. How can keep World Premier off the list. He shut down Mike Tuitt, Mouse the Magician, Jay High to get to the chip then took Corey Fisher totally out the game. Corey Fisher didn’t even want the ball.

For the Ty Grant is the toughest matchup in the city statement:
    1. Too Hard Too Guard
    2. Steve Burt Jr.
    3. Jordan Theodore
    4. Kenny Sat
    5. Dwight Hardy
These five guys can all go for 30 plus on anyone, that’s just of the top of my head.

  19. Casey Lee says:

Mike Glover was the most dominant. As for the most consistent all-around, I would have nominated my man from across the bridge in Queens, none other than Antawn “Anti-Freeze” Dobie.

  20. 40 Cal says:

Bob, the art of passing the ball left 1 generation ago, It’s hard to find teams that still play as a team such as the X-Men, Diamond Crew, NIKE 1, Dominican Power, DDN(Sean Bell) etc… Everyone wants to be a star in new york, to many Chiefs not enough indian’s, people arent willing to play there role in order to win, they rather put the uniform on and take 35 shots than win so it’s rare to catch a point gaurd who thinks pass first.

  21. Sean Couch says:

    MadMan –

The players your mentioning on the strength are folk that I have long history with…

I keep positive with them and I’ll tell you what, both Total and Franchise will be the first to tell you that my list is solid. Trouble making is real strong in the city this year…Corey despite having a rough moment has been in and around the chip consistently with Bingo the last two years.

There are some names that are left off, Stevie Burtt Jr, Freeze is a legend, but some of these other names your throwing at me sound like their your boys.

Stixx, Junie and Miles High had great summers with Stixx puting in regular work at EBC, Junie having a playoff series like he was young again, Miles High really taking off at Pro-City.

You want to turn the mantle over to some young kids that I feel strongly about. They’re real new to the scene and need a few more years to get their cred…

My judgment is sound, its your desire to sound out players that are past their prime and others who don’t like passing on credit that you seem to favor.

  22. The Truth says:

Ive witnessed alot of streetball over the years. I noticed Adris has matured as a point guard, every year u see him play he’s surrounded around a mediocur team so he has no choie but to go for 30. This summer in tri state he had a balanced team and he led them to a undefeated season until they got jerked out that chip. If not he would of won tristate and TOC anyway.
Steve Burtt is also underated, that boy can get 40 on anyone.

  23. Madmark (BX all day) says:

    Sean –

I go to games and see these guys that you are talking about but I think these are your boys. When you say things like “Stixx put in regular work at EBC” and “Junie playing like he was young again” just lets me know that these are your boys. Like Bob says and he keeps it %100 future led the Tri State in scoring but does that mean he’s a candidate too? When Jordan played for the Wizards, he had some great games and he may have looked like a younger version but you would have never cast 1 vote for him for MVP. I’m too young to have seen Junie in his prime but when I look at him now I see an older guy who makes wide open shots and plays a little D. I didn’t see Miles High at Pro City but I saw him at Dyckman, and Tri State and he was the third best player on his team.

This is my last post because it seems you don’t understand my point which is, P.O.Y. means “What have you done for me lately?” Not some lifetime achievement award.

You not knowing the players I mentioned is the exact problem with the list. You’re supposed to be the expert. You really should have let 40 Cal, Kev and Casey do this assignment.

I want to be there when you ask Total and Franchise if your list is solid. I’d like to see Total laugh in your face when you say Stixx and Junie had a better summer than him. Oh, and he’ll be at Kingdome this weekend maybe he can introduce you to some of the players I mentioned.
Can’t forget Franchise is still playing too, maybe we should all meet up at Kingdome and they can help you furthur your education. Then again, looking back over the names I mentioned, if you don’t know them, you don’t have the cred to make a list in the first place

  24. BK Ron says:

WOW MadMark you are rite….Bouncemag SHOULD get sombody else to do these assignments…..Sean is riding 2 Hard real bad…I like 40 Cal, Kev Better .. they keep street ball real… BK Ron

  25. Elliot Rosado says:

Mad mark, I have to agree with you when you name a top 5 you have to keep it real and not vote with your heart. For some reason nobody want to give these young kids there props the Knock on Dwight Hardy was that he didn’t play in enough city tournaments then this year he won player of the year at Tri-State & Hoops in the sun. He destroyed hard to guard at Tri-State. He killed at Dyckman. Did his thing at Watson Classic. for some reason Lee and them never set that game up against Kemba & Corey. LOL! Dwight Hardy is my player of the year hands down. Kenny Satt is like the Shaq of streetball because you already know he’s going to give you 30 every night we just overlook him every year. And when Nike gives out there Nike streetball player of the year that’s what it should be judged on NIke tournaments. They can’t speak for Watson Classic, H.I.T.S. TWC, L.E.S. Who’s casting the votes anyway. How can The people at Watson not have a vote when they had the best tournament all summer.

  26. Madmark (BX all day) says:

    Elliot,

I know I said I wasn’t posting on this topic but Elliot your point about the NIKE P.O.Y. is right on! Watson was fire this summer and nobody gives it props. Pro City from what I hear has had the same teams in it for years. No wonder Sean still sees Junie and the dinosaurs as P.O.Y. candidates. What I’d really like to see is Sean bring his top ten to the BX and watch Hardy, 2H2G, World Premiere, Sat, The Punisher and even take Franchise and Total to play on the front line with them. 40 Cal, can you find them a gym…….Please? I do have a comment on your comment about passing the rock but that can wait.

  27. Madmark (BX all day) says:

    40 Cal –
You are probably the dude I respect most on this board cause you keep it so real, that’s why your comment on passing the rock got me thinking. I ain’t moving off the couch to see X-Men, Diamond Crew, NIKE 1, Dominican Power, or Sean Bell.

If I want to see teams run plays every time down the floor I might as well go and watch the old men Saturday morning at the rec center. When I go to Dyckman, Tri State, 119th St, Watson I WANT to see the Chiefs duel it out, who gives a f%&k about the Indians? I like the 84th st team but if Steve Burt Jr. ain’t playing, I’m going back home to the couch to play Madden. I know people back in the day didn’t sit on the fence and in the trees at 155th to watch Joe Hammond and Pee Wee pass the ball. I’m only 19 but I can’t be that far off. The reason I go watch street ball is for the stuff I can’t see these guys do at school. I know Casey feels me cause we talked about it once.

I go to see EZ Pass call for a clear out and hit his defender with a sick cross. I was out at Dyckman when Bone Collector made that dude fall and it made me a streetball fan for life. I watched an interview with Pee Wee and he talked about how he would shake his man like AI did Jordan. I’d be willing to bet that your fondest memories from this season are NOT dimes for wide open jumpers. It’s Kemba and Corey to the rack, Hardy heating up or 2H2G killing Antifreeze in the gym, straight buckets

40 Cal, I know that you grind it out going park to park. Let me ask you this. Why was every park in NYC jammed packed every time Bone Collector, Skip,or Shammgod played? Certainly not to see them get assists. Shammgod and Reemo went at it at Tri State last year, park was crazy and nobody ever asked who had more assists because nobody cared. Here’s another thing to think about. Besides West 4th St and Pro City, where do these teams win?

If you guys really believed this theory, you would be nominating point guards like Omar Cook, Mookie and whoever plays point for the X Men and Chicky Ding instead of 2H2G, Coery, Kemba and Antifreeze.

It all sounds nice but stop being so damn political this is streetball not a corporate league. I want to see the oohs and Aahs. So does the rest of the world so stop trying to change Streetball into organized ball. That’s what will kill it.

  28. Sean Couch says:

    MadMark

I’m enjoying all the young boy rah rah talk and the matter of fact effect your producing and arranging like a rap beef.

I’m straight hip-hop partner and I tell you what, if we got 5 tournament heads who watched games all summer there is no way they wouldn’t tell you that Stixx didn’t kill this summer.

I understand you might think the young ones have a better perspective because they came to games for a summer but it was just that, a summer of opinion.

The players you mentioned junie, stixx are not my boys, just respected players that understand how to win.

Keep on posting your opinion and try to get the young boys some light. I’m sure you and “40″ got history so keep it coming.

  29. 40 cal says:

Lol, Sean I dont know who that is so there’s no history! Both of you guys make strong points when you speak! I just been watching this blog develop over time I really have nothing to say, I actually wrote a top 10 but then realised I cant comment and deleted everything I wrote. I know 85% of the top dogs in this city, everyone has there own special style of play and does there thing at numerous tournaments in the TRI STATE AREA, There are guys who play only at certain tournaments due to politics in other tournaments who would never even come up on the radar. Lets look at Miles High and Smush Parker for instance, these two both sat on the bench in there first years at the Pro City’s the EBC’s etc… guys who were playing the same way they do now but getting outshined by people they kill at there home tournaments when there on another team, now days guys avoid that by not even showing up to political tournaments, this is when we ask ourselves the question at bounce mag, how many tournaments do we cover on a daily basis, which tournaments are the ones we cover on a daily basis and who is where an when on a daily basis, I missed games in tournaments I heard about all summer, I couldent get to the Sean Armond West 4 Games and the P-Diddy showing up to Tri State, how about T.O.C I couldent make that, what I’m trying to say is that were not everywhere at one time and dont know what goes down at the other spot, we could all be at Pro City on any given night and something crazy could be going down at dyckman, so for me to put up a top dog in the city would be just hilarious cause I didint see everything!

  30. Madmark (Young Boy Rah Rah talk all day) says:

    Sean -

Yeah, the new guys have THIS summer of opinion, isn’t that what the hell we’re talking about? This summer?

I was going to leave it alone but Partna, you’re making all my points for me. the “Player Of the Year” has nothing to do with 1950-2008 it’s the Player of the 2009 season.

Now your criteria is being a respected player that knows how to win? That seems really shady.

Junie doesn’t sniff the Pro City chip without DP which is one of my points, Aren’t you supposed to be the best player on your team to be player of the year? In which Tournament are Stixx, Junie and Miles High the best player on their team?

The only history I have with 40 Cal is that I respect his grind. I respect his opinion because right or wrong he speaks his mind, not some “I don’t want to offend anyone” bull$)t.

I can’t believe you’re dissing your own staff like they are a bunch of know nothings that fetch your coffee for you while you’re at your desk with your feet up thinking about the good old days. They were the ones grinding for Bounce not you so show some respect for your own staff.

Yeah I’m speaking up for the young ballers and now I guess for the young reporters too. I’ll take my young boy rah rah talk to Kingdome and watch some good games but why don’t you take your old ass and go to Pelham Fritz and look for your 2010 Player Of the Year.

  31. sure says:

I have a question I want to know who are the 10 top players 2000-2005 and 2005-present. Opinions. Also who would you pay your money to see know and why. Both questions past & present. It’s always harder for the one after. It’s like seeing a Magic trick for the 10th time. We’ve almost seen everything. It’s why a dunk contest got boring. It’s why we can’t stop comparing everyone to Michael Jordan. Let everyone pave their way. I understand Sean’s point as I’m 30 so im close to the middle. It’s all opinions at the end of the day. Everyone has their favorites. I also understand where Mark is coming from. Were not tired of the past legends but on the same hand if it was their time and still is their time. When will we get recognized later. It’s time for that torch to be passed. It’s big on the youth movement. I love Junie and Nike 1 but if Showtime Daryll Hill/ & Special Fx Williams that game is a no brainer. It’s good to pay homage. People want to see new blood. It should be like Slam/ Slam Punks. We have both generations battling and it shouldn’t be like that. The younger generation isn’t given a chance to succeed or make a name for themselves. That has something to do with what some of the veterans you speak about did with their oppurtunities. I love Adris. I love Freeze. I love Hardy. Just because you played ball back in the days doesnt make your opinion any better than a young’n coming up now. Not always the case. Balance my friend is the key to life. We need each other. Adris needs to be overseas getting that money. Please someone do the right thing. Shamgod should get picked up in the league. He could Start for the Knicks and give us something to look forward. 40 I respect your hustle keep it up. Sean I know you did and played with the best of your generation. But I could tell you I saw somethings from Speedy Claxton,Eric Barkley, Omar Cook, Andre Barrett, Antifreeze, Daryll Hill,Kison,Sclass,Sham,Ty Brown,J High,Smush. that you wouldn’t believe. They were just as good or even better than some of the past legends. It’s all according to who you let tell it. Great debate. There are no winners and losers only in games. I have it as a draw between Mark and Sean. Just kidding. I love this site. Couldn’t imagine it not existing. I’d also like a column on the forgotten ones. Like Shaheem Holloway,Gary Saunders, Jerome Holman, Tyliek Brown, Shandue Mcniel,Lenny Cooke Just to name a few. They very well could have had long standing careers in the league.

  32. Sean Couch says:

    Mad Man

i love my staff and I respect their work. If they weren’t qualified they wouldn’t be out there. You seem to have a problem with me for whatever reasons. No problem, I put the work in and I don’t have to be at every game to understand whose putting in work.

If you read my work you know that it is respected by many folk from the NBA on down and while I dont’ agree with your points i will respect what your saying because an opinion needs a forum and this indeed is where it should be.

But to question my knowledge and then tell me my staff is more qualified to judge this year than myself is moronic.

Get a grip b. Frame of reference analysis is why Sean Bell goes to France, Nike 1 wins the chip year after year and TNP and Bingo are always around the chip. they understand how to win wars, not battles, and that’s what I’m about. I’ll take an L in a battle but I know how to win wars.

Streetball in its truest form is a war, not a one-year battle. Think hard about what I’m saying to you…

While Dwight Hardy playing and scoring is an event, I don’t get that excited when he goes for 59 against a sub-par comp. I get more excited when he hits 18 against Bingo and wins.

Next time you see me come up to me and shake my hand, tell me who you are and what your about. Let’s talk about the street game and agree if necessary to disagree.

I love the challenge and the energy of your words but when it gets personal questioning my commitment to something I started 6 years ago when no one was even thinking about this game on the publication level it is on now, it makes me sad to think that this much hate is in the street.

  33. Madmark (Young Boy Rah Rah talk all day) says:

    Sean -

~Streetball in its truest form is a war, not a one-year battle. Think hard about what I’m saying to you…~

Things like this statement piss me off, what the hell does this mean?

I may be much younger than you but explain this statement so it makes sense.

Am I right that EVERY YEAR teams pay their money to the various tournaments to enter and to win championship packages at the end of THAT SUMMER?

That means every year IS a one year battle!!

The more I think about it, the more it makes me question your judgment.

That’s not personal, it is what it is.

I used to read Bounce cover to cover when it first came out, (when it was gully) now I realize why I don’t anymore. I can get my streetball fix from certain bloggers and the DVD’s I bought from Sherm. (Big Up to Inside Streetball)

I’m going back to school next week and my streetball season is over. I thought maybe Bounce was going to represent the Streets and not the NIKE corporate bull$hit pick that was even shocked when he got it. I see now that you’re just like the rest of corporate America. I realize we see things differently but DAMN, you really are way off.

I used to think like you about the established players, then at age 14 my eyes were opened. In 2005 I thought Kenny Sat and High Five could do no wrong until I saw these 2 little kids kill Kenny at a park I had only been to once before, Dyckman. The park was crowded and Kenny had no answer. Those 2 kids that I had never seen before that were killing my hero were Edgar Sosa and 2H2G. Then in 2006 I saw 2H2G kill against Reemo and many others. In 2007 he was putting 50 on Homicide and murdering the whole city even winning a chip at Gunhill. Now in 2009 when he actually had a down year he’s accepted as player of the year?

Now I know why stuff like that happens, people like you and the way you judge. You write: “The rest of the candidates under consideration are”. That means upon exclusion of all else.

    That’s just funny to me

This is it for me, I’m tired, I’m done with this. BTW TP plays against Franchise in the Kingdome chip tomorrow. Hope to see you there, Peace!!!

  34. DP says:

Hey fellas this is The one and only The most Sought After aka Primal Fear or as everyone in my family calls me DP. So you guys can address me anyway you want.

The one thing you guys make is for good humor and great debate, I do respect everyone’s opinion but to be serious and to keep it real need to check with all the coaches on the streetball scene and let them be the judge. Them plus you guys would really make this a topic to discusion. The Top dog should be a person that can dam there change any team around better said street worthy. You can throw out individual stuff bc that is not what makes people want to play with you or win.

This is the Critera you guys should follow in my eyes. I call them the Sincere Six!

1.How many chips have that person help produce.
2.Is he feared by other teams, meaning do they prepare to deal with him.
3.Steady numbers not 40 today and 10 tomorrow.
4.Does his team or any team by a matter fact have a chance if he is not there.

Nike didn’t get it right for two straight seasons. Last summer the P.O.Y wasn’t Mike Campbell – but Nike continues to insist of giving Mike awards and free stuff and pub when he’s already on the Nike roster. He played in two t’ments last summer. My opinion, either Dobie or “Optimus Prime” Glover shouldve been P.O.Y last summer. THIS summer? Dwight Hardy hands down. Not Adris. He wasn’t even expecting it. Tough player – down year = P.O.Y? Don’t know about that one. Hardy killed at HITS with MVP and scoring champ honors, MVP at Tri-State and killed at Dyckman. He shouldve gotten it regardless of anything. Hope Nike gets it right in the year of 2010.

  36. raymond says:

The next 2 debates – which i cant wait to see – should be the top 5/10 (whatever) t’ments from this past 2009 summer season. and the 2nd one should be – since we’re nearing the end of this decade – the top streetball moments from the past 10 summers (2000-2009) and i know that may sound alot but take into account everything from ebc to dyckman to HITS to pro city to watson to tri-state – everything and everywhere – and the moments dont have to be game moments – like example the ebc 03 chip never got played – that was a pretty big moment in streetball cuz that couldve been the greatest game ever – other t’ments started in this decade (HITS, tri-state, watson, etc) Sean, Kev, Casey, Ballgurl and Bounce – theres some ideas for ya -)

  37. Madmark (Young Boy Rah Rah talk all day) says:

Yeah It’s the rah rah dude for my very last post period. For all the heads that have followed this thread I garr-run-tee that you will see a reversal from Sean. his next post will include World Premiere because he saw with his own eyes what we’ve been seeing all summer. Now Sean, who you can erase from you list? Stixx? Junie? Miles High? T2? You tell the world that World premiere who just won the Finals MVP trophy, beating one of the teams that Sean rides as being so good and knowing how to win.

Try to justify yourself adding World Premiere to your list and lose some credibility to a college sophomore in front of the whole streetball world. Was that what you and Sherm were talking about? I bet you got the scoop from him, didn’t you. I better not find out that you asked him about WP.

I’m out, Peace to all the young niggas like me who can see the truth not someone who still in the past.

Peace to the young Bounce cats, keep grindin and postin

  38. Sean Couch says:

Mad Mark aka Mad Man –

So you see me out there and don’t have the courage to
step to me in peace and state your opinion face to face???

Now I stepped to WP, told him he played well and was deserving to be on the list and he had a great summer,
but the list was one that is solid and I stand by it.

Why didn’t you step to me in peace partner? it’s a shame that you lost an opportunity to talk it out instead of hide behind your words.

You didn’t check DP’s (Darren Phillips) words on the blog or really want to talk because your on this “beef” mission, no prob…

The true spirit of the street is guarding someone after he
puts you on your butt or makes a move that has the crowd
out their seat. You seem to be the type that wants to be subbed out or asks to guard someone else instead of just manning up and taking the good or the bad face to face.

Taz said on the mic “World Premier the best point guard in the street this year, no matter what Bounce says. Good! WP proved himself and played well but name the DP guards????

Slasher is 35 years old and the other two are not DP’s top players….

Anyway I went right to Taz after the game and we talked it out, and we left as friends because he has an opinion and I do also.

It’s too bad you had a chance to compete on a real level by being a man and giving me your opinion face to face, ya never know what it could of lead to…

Bounce my man is as real as it gets, it gives the playground a life that no other magazine has ever done or will ever do.

    Keep supporting the youngsters…

  39. Madmark (Young Boy Rah Rah talk all day) says:

    Sean-

I though about coming up and debating with you after the game. I was amped up that you were proven so wrong L-I-V-E. Then I thought about how you tried to dismiss me by saying I have “young boy rah rah talk”

Your having to eat humble pie and add “World Premiere” makes everything I have said in the past posts about your judgment valid. You came out to the park and one of us youngins proved your list a joke in one game.

Oh yeah, Total and Franchise were both there did you ask them if your list was solid? hahaha I doubt it.

Think about this, if your list was so solid and DP’s guards were so bad, you should have stuck to your list and left him off. After seeing this guy play “ONCE” against bad guards you wanting to add him to your list says Worlds (pun intended) about you and your judgment.

  40. Sean Couch says:

    MadMark

I’ve seen World Premier play several times chief and if you understand what I said, you would see that I told him something and stuck to what I did on the list. Your not reading everything straight and your playing a game of checkers that get’s played out by just talking to the source.

I’ve known Kendell since his day’s playing with Turtle at Abyssinian, I’m very familiar with his game and his story. He’s a strong defender and has good floor generalship, but again his summer wasn’t as good as Adris or Dwight Hardy so your proven wrong comment isn’t really registering.

  41. 40 cal says:

I agree with DP, a debate like this should not be up to any of us, the only way to make this fair is to ballot all the coaches in this city, the one proble with that though is guys might play favortisim. I think starting next summer we should do a bouncemag.com voting system with strictly the fans, the guys who are out there on a regular at there local tournament then put the votes together, this way we avoid bias ratings and everything above, the fans deserve to make this call and we need to find a way to involve them more, comments can only go so far cause no one is going to agree with each other.

  43. TP says:

idk why i included smush there hes really been around for some time now tom ill post the top 25 vets of the nyc streetball scene.

  44. Casey Lee says:

As an advocate of the community, I agree with 40 Cal. I think a fans ballot would give an insight as to who deserves the talk in the streets…

Darren Philip (DP) definitely deserves to be recognized as well. My bad DP. I think he should be given the award for Most Impact Player.

    @ Madmark,

All props go to World Premier last night but I though for sure K-Sat would lock that MVP trophy. Those crossovers: WHOOOWEEEEEEEE!

  45. Sean Couch says:

    Casey and 40

In the 2007 fall edition of Bounce (Steve Burtt Cover) we went to several tournament directors and asked them to vote for their top players. Some were apprehensive because they didn’t want to alienate certain players by voting for one and not the other. Most of them declined.

I went to DP and some other long-time street veterans and asked them for their opinion. DP left for overseas before he got a chance to decide whether he wanted to participate or not while others were again apprehensive because they straight up said they would vote for their boys. So in essence it wouldn’t reflect the true nature of what was going on on the street.

What we ended up doing was having a poll that had Bounce Staff and respected playground coaches vote that Bobbito and myself supervised.

Kenny Sat ended up the player of the year in 2007.

Introducing a fan poll would be great and something we will work towards.

  46. raymond says:

kenny satt in 07 was the only year they had it right – 08 and 09 were suspect

  47. Sean Couch says:

In 07, T2 had a phenomenal summer but Kenny Satt got the Bounce pick. I voted for T2.

In 08, Ron Artest was the POY in my opinion hands down with Anti-Freeze my non-NBA pick. Mike Campbell got the TOC chip and overall POY.

Our picks are a consensus and we stand by them as a unit.

  48. Reed says:

I have not seen a dominate player in years on the streetball scene. Not since Conrad “Mr McNasty” was on the scene. Theres too many good players to say who’s the top. A good question for the streetz is who’s been the most successful team in streetball since “Mousey” retired the “DreamTeam” around 5 – 6 years ago? uuumm! The team would have to have played in at least 4 major summer events. “Mousey’s team dominated mostly in the EBC what was considered the best streetball tournament in NY and the world, and I think he won like 6 or 7 chips all together with Terror Squad. Since then, what team has been the most successful in the NY streetball curcuit? Could be Dominican Powers or even the Sean Bell team.

  49. Madmark (Young Boy Rah Rah talk all day) says:

    Reed,

Never that my dude, the Mouseys Dream team was the “most dominant” team was a myth. They did win at EBC but the comp has been watered down for a while. TNP had 3 seasons that will never be matched. 50-1, 46-3, 46-7 over a three year period, all over the city 15 chips in three years.

  50. Reed "Harlem Allday" says:

    Madmark
Nuff said, I did’nt know that they did all that. They don’t have no big name players, who’s on that team?

But what about Nike-1 who won Hunter a few times, or Bingo’s Allstars who’s been doin it lately, or Primetime who’s probably the longest active streetball team in NY, or Team 914, or the X-men who’s been around for years, or M.O.E who is a Bx favorite, or Harlem Ballers, or Kingdome Allstars, o Tony Rosa teams, or Dipset, or Domincan Power, what about Sean Bell Allstars or Money Train out of Queens, and there’s more.
