Manny Maldonado has three passions in life: Christ, basketball, and youth. The CHOSEN NYC Basketball League in Manny’s words “uses the game of basketball as a tool to encourage youth to make positive life choices through a personal relationship with God.” Manny has created a program that is free for the whole community because of the generosity of others; people have dedicated their time as coaches, helpers, and referees without receiving pay. Donations throughout the community provide money for jerseys, basketball, and other expensive equipment. You can help Manny with his cause by donating. This league is hot…some really good ballers from the JHS to the HS level. Manny and his team genuinely care about these kids and it shows by how they come and bring the Good News out to the kids and those who happen to stop by…Come out to the championships next Wednesday.

Wow is the word! As one of the associate pastors at East Side Tabernacle, which hosts the chosen basketball league it has been a blessing to see how God has moved in all of this and how He has provided the resources through those hearts that He touched so that they would donate of their time and financial resources. We are totally encouraged and blessed by the work Manny, his wife Drusilla and the rest of the team is doing. Our goal is to have year round sports for the community (football, baseball, etc.) and we are looking for those who have a heart for youth and the Lower East Side community to help with donations of any size so that we can continue to provide a venue for our youth to have fun and compete in a safe and positive environment. If you are interested in helping you can either donate at our website at Eastsidetabernacle.org or call the church at (212) 673-9815 for more information. God bless you all!

This league has been amazing, from the high talent level to the commitment of volunteers who just love the youth and the game of basketball. It’s a life changing experience! It’s not all about basketball though- what’s most important is the positive environment created from the availability of mentors, role models and a love for Jesus Christ!!

This is such a great thing for these young boys. I have been out a few times and they truly enjoy it. It is so wonderful that they get so much support from EST and the community and are able to run the league with no charge to these kids. It is definitely a great experience for them and I hear they get something really nice if they win the championship! I just hope through this some of these boys can see the work that Jesus does even if it is a basketball league. God is good!

CHOSEN had its semi’s and JHS championship Wednesday, 8/26 and all the games were tight. The two semi’s, JHS and HS divisions, went down to the final whistles, respectively. In the JHS semi Victorious edged The Disciples for a shot to play Good Life in the championship. Victorious won a tight championship game winning by 4 points in O.T. It was ball played to its finest street level…
The HS semi between, the Ambassadors and Royalty was tight until the Ambassadors took over with 2-3 minutes and won by 4. Due to the sunset the HS championship was rescheduled for 8/27 at 6pm…if you’re in the LES stop by and watch some young ballers with some nice skills run the black-top NYS style…
