Issue #17 may be the best one yet. The story on Pearl Washington was great. The story on Artest and what he does for his community is incredible. And also the story on Tri-State going for that #1 spot is good money.

regarding that “Tri State Classic Gunnin for the #1 spot”, can any of the top execs of bounce mag tell me if the tri state classic is gunnin for the #1 spot then who CURRENTLY holds the #1 spot? and what other t’ments besides the tri-state classic is gunnin for the #1 spot? or do you guys feel its just tri-state classic gunnin for the #1 spot and thats it?

  5. Haneef says:

    kiki-

i think you know the answer to your own question . . . and if you’ve read our magazine and blog over the years, then you’ll easily find out what we think as we cover as much ground as possible.

i’m sure you’re well aware that there are 10-15 men’s leagues that are shooting for the #1 spot. all the tournament directors are competitive and want the best for their players and fans. hoops in the sun came to the table with an electronic scoreboard outdoors some years ago, now this summer together we chill brought out a video highlight screen like you see on jumbotrons in big arenas. goodman league in dc thinks they have the best summer ball in the world, so does the drew league in los angeles. it’s a broad spectrum of spots trying to be #1. mousey started tri-state with one goal in mind, and that was to take over, however his mentality is no different than ray diaz at pro city or howie at dunker’s delight in brooklyn (who has a good thing going on but fights to get any attention from uptown).

if you read our mag which featured tri-state, you’d see that hoops in the sun, kingdome, pro city, dunker’s delight, drew league, goodman, seattle’s rip the cut, la’s say no classic, on adn on were all represented. and if you read out site, you’ll see west 4th, ebc, twc, hoops in the sun, watson classic, on and on.

i hope that answers your question, however like i said, simply read our pages and it’s all in front of you!

    peace

i always read the bounce mag’s and check up on the site B, dont get me wrong im a fan of TWC but just didnt want people to start thinking that since its in bounce mag and theres an article written up on TWC as like “the next #1″ that it is, and its only beeen around 2 years…where u have t’ments like pro city, dyckman, hoops in the sun etc, being around for 10+ years and in my opinion, one of those should be considered as #1, like u said, hoops in the sun came to the table yrs ago with the massive electronic scoreclock outdoors then it was followed by dyckman, kingdome and TWC with the same clock as HITS when HITS had it 1st, then they came out this summer with a eletronic ticker with scores, updates etc, that resembled what they have in NBA arenas and in the stock market thing at times square, dyckman with its crazy crowds and atmosphere, pro city turned it up crazy notches this summer, i kno we’re all gonna have our own opinions…

do u agree with TWC gunnin for the #1 spot or do you feel there’s sum1 else gunnin for that #1 spot?

also i wrote weeks ago about possibly you or sean doin sumthin on finding the top 20/25 NYC streetball nicknames of all time, that’ll be crazy…

  11. Bobbito Garcia a.k.a. Kool Bob Love says:

    kiki-

i think there a ton of tournaments gunnin’ for the #1 spot. personally, i enjoy the all as they each have their own particular flavor and strengths. i’ve never been one to try to figure out who is actually #1. i think that’s impossible if you ask me, cuz everone has a different criteria. i think what’s important is that the fans and players decide for themselves where they want to be, instead of just following what we the media say or someone else does. like a lot of uptown dudes never play out in brooklyn in queens. speedy went everywhere and killed, but he’s an exception. i say travel, explore, enjoy. it’s not a girlfriend where you have to commit to one. i probably hit up kingdome the most only because it’s right down the block from my crib. but every summer i’m trying to go as many courts as possible, and that’s to watch and play. tri-state is hot, lots of people talked about it, it deserved coverage in our magazine and we’re happy with how the article came out. we hope that you are too, my brohter

  12. Kiki says:

ok cool, also i wrote weeks ago about possibly you or sean doin sumthin on finding the top 20/25 NYC streetball nicknames of all time and putting them in order from 1-25, that’ll be crazy…

  13. Sean Couch says:

    kiki –

Tournaments are always looking for that recognition. We give credit where it’s due. Watson has been doin big things and the Dog Show has made some noise. The Bronx has Gun Hill which goes on and on with good solid ball, so we do our best to acknowledge on the basis of merit. Mousey has been a vet for years on the street, produced a viable tournament and out of his own mouth has said “he’s going to be the best.” So he’s gunnin for the spot and we’ll see how it turns out.

As far as the nicknames are concerned I feel you on that so we’ll see if we can make that happen soon.

this issue is great bob much respect on this one i kind of expected an issue like this coming. ricans are every where in sports especially in basketball and they have a strong history J.J. barea is a good player to me and Melo is the truth. Ricans are also making noise in the college ranks i followed the big east alot and mike rosario is bringing it every night despite their record and denis clemente from K-state. this dude went awol for 44 on a talented Texas squad and only shot 6 threes in my mind they can be pros in the near future. i think some people don’t realize that the game of b-ball is getting more diverse and with the movement with ricans is gonna make it even more diverse.

  29. Gerald Narciso says:

Love the new issue. Id been following Ill Will since he was on that Chciago Preps show. they need to get that show on DVD, great show followed Sean Dockery, Eddy Curry and a dude from Marshall. Some of the stuff Bynum can do is unbelievable.

Didnt finish reading through the entire issue, but Ali’s Native American piece was dope too. Truly is a worldwide game

  30. ali says:

thanks gerald. chillin out in oklahoma w/ my native american brethren and seeing the love and passion they have for the game was a life changing experience for me.
