Maybe there is something to Dwight Howard’s nickname after all. Not only is the man an automatic double-double who can probably dunk the top of the backboard, but he can also switch it up like Bo Jackson. In Vancouver yesterday to promote the upcoming release of NBA Live 10, Superman showed off his entire sports repertoire by playing a little tennis, soccer and hockey. Yes, hockey.
The Magic’s franchise player faced off against EA’s other top endorsers Venus Williams (tennis obviously), Milan Lucic (Boston Bruins, NHL) and Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA, MLS) in the King of the Court competition. Dwight shocked the crowd by winning the hockey shootout by scoring a goal (check above vid). He then went to play it off by claiming he had a role in the Mighty Ducks. In the tennis competition, he served up a bullet that would have been a sure-shot ace against 90 percent on any rec players. Then again, he almost killed a spectator on one of his other serves. Howard just about destroyed the leather off the soccer ball before scoring a penalty kick in the futball contest. His other attempt flew past the goalie but hit the post.
In fact, the only competition Dwight lost was the HORSE game – which he threw on purpose. When the dust settled, it was Dwight who went down as King and took down as Stephon Marbury would say, “the shiny stuff.” And just in case you were wondering, Venus, God bless her, has zero basketball, soccer or hockey game. Lucic, the hockey player could stroke it a little and at 6-2, Sacha nearly dunked the ball.
This was my first time meeting Dwight and seeing him real, raw and uncut. He is as funny and charismatic in person as he is on TV. Here is some more vid of Superman on EA’s Campus.
