The Opening Weekend for the 10th Anniversary of Hoops in the Sun had its
ups and downs. Saturday was rained out so games took place in the confines
of the Baychester Community Center, but Sunday’s games took place where
its supposed to take place – Orchard Beach.
On Saturday afternoon, the up-start GNC All-Stars defeated Queenbridge 97-89 led by
Mike Epperson’s 22 points and 13 rebounds. Team 914 stormed out the gate
early on Bronx kingpins R2K, never giving R2K a chance to get back into the game
and won convincingly 99-66, led by Kirk Williams with 31 points and 6 rebounds.
On Sunday afternoon, the Young Ones from Dyckman defeated the short-handed
PR Pride 82-77, led by Stacy Daniel’s with 16 points and 8 rebounds.
“Pops 5 – The Legacy” returned to Hoops in the Sun for the 10th Anniversary season and had an impressive victory over Hoop Street 105-101, led by Steve Burtt, Jr.s 33 points
and 10 assists. In the finale, defending champion Bingo’s All-Stars defeated new-comers
Rosedale Trailblazers 109-87, led by LaMont “Momo” Jones with 30 points and 5 assists.
