Uptown on Dyckman Street and Nagle Avenue – Basket on a window guard
On the corner where Mike, Head of Coach of Dominican Power, hangs out, a small rim hung on a window guard is a place right on the street where kids play games of 3-on-3. Playing in non-traditional places is a time honored tradition on the streets of NY and hoods across America. Fire escapes, garbage cans, milk crates hung on streetlights, and monkey bar sets are traditional hood courts. Up in Dyckman when I was little, we kicked out the bottom of metal garbage cans and hung them up on the iron monkey bar set and played what we called “monkey bar” ball. I wish I had a camcorder back then.

This kid hit 5 in a row from 25-feet out with his left hand!

Uptown courts are scarce and peeps love the game. They’ll shoot on anything to get their basketball jones off. I know you understand the love…
