K1X is here to stay!!!
Last year, K1X left a huge imprint in the Boogie Down Bronx by collaborating with the Watson Classic and Hoops In The Sun. This year, the brand plans to continue leaving its impact on our streets of New York. K1X go to Guy Niels Jager took some time out of his busy schedule to let me know what the big plans are this year. Check it out.
40 – Last year you invaded the Bronx with Hoops in the Sun and the Watson Classic. This year what does K1X bring to the table?
Last year K1X focused on the Bronx. We wish the Cruz Brothers and “Hoops in the Sun” nothing but the best, even if things did not work out this year. Communication channels with Joe Pope of Watson were opened too late, but we will be outfitting the BX tourney with exclusive co-branded K1X/Watson tees!
Niels- K1X is extremely proud to team up with the finest tournaments in NYC -”Kingdome,” “Together We Chill” and the “Lower Manhattan Classic”- this summer.
All three tournaments will take the court in K1X’s “League Uniform Set.” Team colors will feature more snap, crackle and pop than your morning Rice Krispies. Each tourney will be supplied with the K1X “Eye-Oh Rock (for indoor/outdoor use), official tournament tees in two colors, and will receive full coverage on www.k1x.com, staring mid June. See below for a taste of our reworked logos.
40 – There was a heated discussion on bouncemag.com on the NEW POLL post, a guy talking about a new brand coming out that will blow K1X out the water and it’s because a K1X representative left to Under Armour. Anything you have to say in response to this.
Niels – Good luck!
40 – Just to clear things up, is Ron Artest still signed to K1X?
Niels – Ron Artest was signed to K1X and is now signed to a Chinese brand that can flat out pay him more $. But we remain close to the Tru Warier and his Queensbridge fam. Here he is backstage at a Lakers game and after winning the Champ at HITS last summer…
See our “Tru Warier QB Classic” Reversible Sets (2007, also featured on Bounce Mag Cover) below.
40 – You guys have a reputation for snatching up top talent like Cory Underwood, Darren Phillips, Homicide, Circus, Mr. Biz etc. Any new players added to the K1X roster this year?
Niels – We will continue to work with the elite players in the K1X fam, and look to add some more sugar to the Kool Aid this summer. In tune with our “play hard, don’t embarrass our products” approach, K1X will focus on full throttle players, guys that will dive on concrete for loose balls. K1X identifies with the player who rakes in wins. We’ll leave the layup-line showboating to others. You can’t teach heart!!
40 – Anything you want to promote?
Niels – Check in with www.k1x.com daily to keep in tune with news from “The nation of Hoop”. This week: Talib Kweli in our “Inauguration” Tee, K1X donates to Ademola Okulaja’s cancer charity and more on K1X’s exclusive “World B. Free” collection!

You can’t front K1X has stepped up during these hard times. Nike cutting back and taking it out on the hood was a bad move. K1X I salute you.

Word of mouth is that Nike never left, people are saying they bought shirts & skins, they also still have Dykman & Tri State.

Maybe we can get a Nike rep to fill us in as to what’s going on.

Now is the time more than ever to sponsor tournaments and be visible during these tough economic times. Nike has always had a diverse portfolio, Adidas works the NBA circuit, and now K1X is coming in and campaigning the streets!

Here are some other brands that would be interesting to see sponsor tournaments despite business acquisitions:
-British Knights
-Converse (part of Nike)
-Pony
-Pro-Keds
-Reebok (part of Adidas)
