Isaac Daniel started the South Street Seaport Basketball Tournament in June of 1999 in a remote location on the Lower East Side between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges. Daniel brought something new to the streetball scene with the modified college and pro rules. Over the years, the tournament grew as teams from all over the tri-state area and even some from as far away as Philadelphia joined the field.
The tournament got so popular that a Harlem resident even paid The Parks Department not to issue Daniel the permit for the court on 130th Street and Madison. As a result, he had to improvise so he and I put our minds together and looked for NYC’s next best court. We sure did find it in Sarah D. Roosevelt park on Houston Street between Forsyth & Christie, a very popular Lower East Side location for open run because of its fiberglass backboards and crazy foot traffic.
This year, live from the L.E.S, Isaac Daniel and I, 40 cal, bring you the Lower Manhattan Classic sponsored by K1X. There will be giveaways, special guest appearances, an all-star game and a whole lot more. The League is slated to start June 13 and will run every Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. all summer long.

K1X is sponsoring? Hey does anyone know if Homicide is still down with K1X or did he leave with Ron Artest? I saw Ron wasn’t wearing K1X in the playoff’s. I hope Homi is still down with K1X so we can check him at this tournament but I heard he lives in Denver and is doing a tournament with Chauncey Billips, if so that is where it’s at I’d stay in Denver too!

My team is in the tourney, we are not doing so well. Ike, mad props to you, we been playing in your joint for like 6 years- good look. My team needs a shooter (thats what I do) and I have not been able to get out of work (#@%$*+^ work). Middle finger to my boss, free the shooter!!!
