Rudy Fernandez: The Spanish Fly The Latest / Jan 20, 2009 / 7:06 am

He we go!! The Spaniard Rudy Fernandez will be the first European baller who run the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. He got more votes than Joe Alexander and Russell Westbrook (two great dunkers too), and he’ll compete against Howard, Robinson and Gay.
Rudy is playing well at Portland, doing highlights everyweek, but the Slam Dunk Contest could be his perfect moment to show to the whole world what he has (remember when he posterized Dwight Howard at the Olympics). Rudy Fernandez can jump!

Rudy is one of my fav players in the league. I saw him drop 18 on the knicks at the garden in dec. However, I dont know if he has the finesse to win the dunk contest, he might have been better suited for the 3 pt. jammy.

Woohoo, I voted for Rudy, I think he’s proven he got the skills(especially noticeable in a couple of his games for the Spanish National team), and the attitude to perform some excellent dunks, I can’t wait to see how he’ll do.

I was hoping Vanilla Sky, Joe Alexander, got the spot instead of Rudy. I don’t think he has a chance to win. Maybe, for his first dunk, he ask Dwight Howard to guard him…then dunk on him…that should at least get him some 9’s….

i dont understand why he got picked…my expectations are definitely low…great game dunker but i just dont see it translating to the dunk contest where creativity and hang time are wat get you points.

who knows? in the video he did two very plain dunks in teh practice gym, but maybe he’s holding back teh creativity for the contest? what if he shocks everyone and takes it? you know mr. stern would love the boost for overseas merchandising.
