i don’t think bassy’s a system player. i think if he got the minutes to produce, he could easily give you 16 and 8 whether he’s playing with quality vets and a beast big man or a bunch of scrubs.

i hear you on morrison, but he scored 11 points a game playing 30 minutes and shot a horrific 37% from the field his rookie year. missed all of last year, granted, but he’s giving you 5 points a game right now. that’s not what’s hot in the streets. he was the 3rd overall pick, ahead of brandon roy, rudy gay, ronnie brewer, renaldo balkman, rajon rondo and jordan farmar, boobie gibson, paul millsap, etc. and kwame brown is a given. now there’s a bust.

No doubt, Sebastian doing a Ron next summer is the ticket. Shooting on the outdoor courts with some defense on him would give him some confidence.

And “Cheesecake” your right, he’s had some questionable off-court moments, but I think he’s at the point where he wants to get the big money contract and is prepared to work harder at his game to get it.

Hey Sean–

I dig the ‘45 Degrees of Blackness’ write-up, and have to agree–Gordon could be deadly in a more experienced environment where he can work comfortably, then flourish.

I FINALLY caught “Through the Fire” over my Thanksgiving Break, and it was clearly evident that Sebastian’s outside shooting ability was questionable from the jump. (He’s not taking it to the rim in the League, no way, no how!)

Debatable off-court behavior and playing in youthful environments have done nothing but hindered his growth. (Bassy’s shooting hasn’t improved much, which is certainly dissapointing.) Telfair is purely a system player; put him with a squad surrounded by veterans and a star big man, and I think he can flourish. I don’t think the Knicks can provide that…

Ali-Morrison was selected onto the All-Rookie Second Team his first year. A terrible knee injury has robbed him of any development or playing time.

How can we have a ‘bust’ post without mentioning the proverbial bamma, Kwame Brown?!?!

the problem is if you are drafted out of high school you should be expected to perform at the highest level since the NBA is that. he has had some good games but overall he hasnt lived up to potential of being drafted out of high school. so thats why you hear the “bust” tag. but most of those guys dont. he has ways to go. ironically his best games that i saw were when he was on portland in msg and a few weeks ago with the wolves in msg. maybe he does need to be a knick. hopefully he would cherish that more than his cousin.

I think Sebastian in the right system can really shine. If you watch the Timberwolves games you will see that the offense runs a lot smoother when he is in the game. He is a pass first P.G. so players love playing with him. And also think about this. Is Shaun Livingston the number 4 pick in that years draft a bust. Or Luke Jackson the number 10 pick. What about Kris Humphries Number 14 and Kirk Snyder number 16. I think Sebastian will be just fine but i also agree with you Sean he may need to pull of a Ron Artest and play in a couple of streetball tournaments this summer to regain that toughness and confidence.

how can you call a 23 year old nba point guard who put up 9 points and 6 assists a bust? whoever calls him that has no appreciation for what it’s like playing the most difficult position in the world’s best league.

if you know ball, you knew that a sub-6′ point man coming out of high school would need some deep seasoning, regardless of how he killed in prep ball. the leap he took is much more historic and monumental than any big man.

if he’s out of the league, without doing anything significant by the time he’s 28, then he’s a bona fide bust. but you can’t say that right now. he’s still a work in progress. let’s read the entire book before we shut it down.

he was a real point guard before he reached puberty. and given his lineage, i’d guess that his ball iq is extremely advanced. dude is getting better, stronger and understanding what pro ball is all about. he’ll get his chance and my money says that he’ll prove the haters wrong.

Did his college in the NBA and is one of these kids that needs a little space and time to understand his rhythm. I personally view him like a Mike Conley – a young 21 to 23-year-old guard learning the game.

Remember, he was first point guard to jump from High School taken that high. The position is the hardest in the league to master. Given the green light his game could become a show at the Garden. A hunch.

Your kidding right? This guy is a major bust. At best he will be a journeyman and out of the league in a few years if not sooner. Too small, no outside game and limited passing ability. His basketball IQ is equivalent to a houseplant. Should have gone to college and learned how to be a real pg.
