Mike catching an oop from Tyreke Evans at American Christian Academy.
Mike Glover was one of the top playground performers in New York City last summer.
If you don’t know Mike’s case, he was denied a D-1 scholarship opportunity to Seton Hall University by the NCAA due to transcript issues at American Christian Academy. This is the same school that closed its ball program as soon as Tyreke Evans graduated and matriculated to Memphis. The closure jammed Lamont “Momo” Jones, a recent Virginia Tech signee, who transferred from Rice only to have to scramble at the last minute and enroll at Oak Hill Academy this year. See my article about Mike at www.blackpower.com. For those who know Mike’s game, do you think he has what it takes to go pro now?

what ever happened to going to your local high school, getting good grades, and playing four years? if more kids did that, there would be less situations like this and “diploma mills” like American Christian would no longer exist

mike glover killed everyone this past summer no doubt, would’ve been a good fit at seton hall with hazell and coach gonzalez. is he nba material? that’s a good question, sean. he definitely has potential as he’s extremely mobile, quick off his feet, has hops, and a soft touch 17′ and in from what i’ve seen, but i’ve yet to see him against nba comp, which i’m sure he has, i just haven’t been there. against people his age in the park, he dominates. his brother anthony is a problem too!

glover had a double double at pro city playing with gold’s gym against queensbridge and actually had to guard artest and special fx for a good portion of the game

Mr. K1X says:
in my opinion, he is not NBA ready yet.
he (and Jiggie Josh) should hit the euro circuit for a couple years to get thier games (and their pockets) polished THEN hit the NBA summer league and see what they can do. all the bouncing around with the colleges seems like a waste of time

He’s actually playing D-1 JUCO for ASA right now if you guys wanna know.

Mike has good ups and a strong motor. His mid-range and 3-point game need refining. If he competes and finishes JUCO play, I could see him at V-tech, Florida State or even West Virginia. St. John’s would have been the logical choice but because of the lawsuit he would not be able to play for a big east school.

i’d love to see him somehow still end up at seton hall, him, keon lawrence and herb pope would do damage in the big east

Mike killed Francisco Garcia at TWC this summer in Harlem. I know he may not be NBA ready but he fouled Garcia out in 2 1/2 quarters. he made it look like really easy too haha.

That’s a tough break for Glover. He’s a horse on the floor. I hope he lands somewhere that will continue to foster his development. He has a lot of potential.

That entire recruiting group of Pope, Glover, and Lawrence is looking more and more questionable.

I have seen mike glover play before his game is serious i seen him once a few summers ago summers ago in UDC in the bronx he was like 18 or 19 years old hold in it down For the bingo’s all-stars 23 and under squad and he was killing everybody. his 3-point range looked good then but i don’t know what happened to it after that and most recently i read about that combination 4 100 points he had in a whole weekend this past summer i believe that he got what i takes to go pro and i believe that a major D1 school could give him a scholarship once he’s finished with JUCO
as 4 those schools he attended i think one reason why he ended up going to boys II men academy then American Christian was probably because of academic reasons i could be wrong but i knew that prior to playing for those schools he played for James Monroe Campus in the PSAL and and throughout the years some of the good players from PSAL schools end up going straight to a JUCO or a post-Graduate prep school because some of the classes that are offered at most NYC public high schools are not accepted by the NCAA clearing house. trust me over the years it happend to alot of player s especially players in the PSAL.

Mike is a super talent and when a kid jumps around like Mike has academics can suffer. The NCAA has increased its standards now from 14 core classes to 16 this year. If players are not aware of the requirements and don’t have that guidance counselor or coach that has interest they fall through the cracks.

Mike is a good player and maybe, just maybe, with some refinement he could position himself for the NBA. On the real, we can affirm that he is a pro baller, NBA excluded. He certainly will earn a check playing with his gifts. However, the “L” is a different matter. Where do you play Mike? He is probably most comfortable as a four, but he is the size of a lot of two guards, without the handles and shooting ability outside of fifteen feet.
I wish him well and once again, the ultimate measure of a players ability should not be the NBA. If young men, like Mike, are able to play overseas and subsist and take care of their families, then that is cool. They have won and are ahead of the game. Hopefully, though they still take care of their academics because nothing is forever and a brotha gots to have a back up plan. Ya dig!
Funky by nature

Mike will be a pro one day. But we are getting of the subject. When will the adults, coaches, advisors. Be held responsible. Who told Mike to go to prep school in chicago after his Sophmore year & then had him transfer to Christian academy for his senior year. Everybody has benefited from this kid but know one will step up and except the responsibility for this kid not being eligible.

Elliot:
When a kid is in an institution, it is the responsibility
of the institution and the coaches to stay on top of the issue. The NCAA clearinghouse issues are ever changing and the fact that there is a lack of cooperation in some cases between school counselors and the NCAA is a big problem.
Then parents are not informed in a timely fashion about what classes will be needed to gain div 1 or 2 scholarship opportunity and kids get caught in not being informed. A school should do everything in its power to inform parents and have NCAA conference calls to review classes to make sure there up to the standards of the clearinghouse.
A school should also be competent enough to tell a kid about credits that will clear and will not. A lot of this responsibility is put on the students and the parents who don’t fully understand the clearinghouse, the rules, and certain time constraints.
If there is a college counselor, then that person should be the one held responsible to make sure the classes a kid has are the ones the clearinghouse should accept.

Mike was looking pretty good when I last saw him in practice pre season, he’s in top notch shape is about to help coach Kenny Wilcox and the rest of his staff a championchip at ASA. They got a great system at that school and are going to make Mike better with the things coach wilcox is going to teach him. After Mike kills everyone in juco 1 somone big is gonna recruit him, nowhere in BIG EAST of course with retrospect but he’s gonna land somwhere exclusive with the fact he’s going to be putting up the numbers that he’s good for 10 on the offensive glass and 20 or better on the score sheet

Oh and by the way mike is going to do well in school due to the no bull policy coach wilcox has at his program at ASA look him up.

i watch Mike Glover and Mike Tuitt play for the last few years and them two players together is a real problem. Even though they might have bounce around during their High School careers, i believe student athlete tend to do so to find the right path. Both players came along way with their games n it should this pass summer.
Mike Tuitt who is a 6′3 180lb point guard from the Bronx is now attending Monroe College which he started 12 out of 14 games helping Monroe to a 13-1 start of their season.. running the team very well and seems to me he’s on the right path.
Mike Glover is a 6′6 SF 200lb from the Bronx is attending ASA juco in Bk, taking classes at this point trying to get cleared to play for the 2nd half of their season. Mike will be a major part of ASA success.
i can’t wait for these two players to match up against one another
Wed 01/28/08 ASA Away St. Francis College 8:00 PM
becaz its going to be a show down.
