Nativepreps.com, a site intended to aid young Native-American athletes further develop their skills and garner more recognition from collegiate coaches, has officially launched.
The site provides well-deserved coverage for dedicated youngsters competing at high levels in basketball, baseball and football.
In addition to hosting tournaments and camps, Nativepreps.com will provide clinics, rankings and guidance for athletes who might not otherwise get the proper exposure.
“Many native athletes are really talented but opportunities are limited because the reservations are in rural locations,” says Nelson Hernandez, one of the founders of the project. “What we’re trying to do is host some events for our kids to play against some city kids so that the footage they have for coaches can mean something…”
Members will have the opportunity to create profiles and enter the site’s ranking system, allowing college coaches to monitor stats and even watch footage. Nativepreps.com has established relationships with the premiere universities, prep schools and JUCO schools across the country, as well as with several former NBA, MLB and NFL players. Its staff has participated in ranking events for shoe companies and training camps involving some of the top high school and AAU programs in the country.
Nativepreps is set to host its first basketball ranking camp in Henryetta, Okla. Dec. 5-7.

A few years back I worked a promotional event in Sturgis, South Dakota for the Harley Davidson Credit Card. The gig wasn’t all that but on a rare day off I decided to check out the local courts. Only one other dude on the court, but after a few games of one on one he told me to follow him to where the locals run. It turned out to be near an indian reservation and the runs were exclusively native american ( except for the caucasian dude I rolled up with; and my self, ASIAN). To make a long story short it turned out to be a solid run; many of the dudes were tall and althletic, and the guards had solid handles and jumpers. After a short wait I got in a full court run; ended up getting two buckets a steal and a few boards, but defered to the native american peeps on my squad since I could tell they ran together before. Ended up losing the game and the wait for next was crazy long so I decided to bounce…but all in all a good experience…
