Okay, so maybe you dumbed out and missed the James Brown vs. Fela Kuti party yesterday, however if you want to learn more about afro-beat and it’s influence on the world’s music, check out this trailer for the upcoming film Take Me Away Fast where a DJ travels to Ghana and Benin in search of records. He winds up meeting all these forgotten recording artists, and the music score is ridiculous. Enjoy:
This short snippet did take me away…you could really appreciate and feel the passion for this deeply rooted music…the history is etched and echoed on the old timers who speak of its orgins particluarly the one who got a little emotionally choked up when recalling the passing of a fellow artist…looks like a great flick to peep and I will definetly put my brother and others on
Thanx for posting this.
Please check out the club night behind this movie project every Thursday at Santos. There are video projections with more footage like this and you’ll get to hear the rarest and heaviest Afrobeat records ever… http://www.voodoofunk.com
