The Five-Star Sunday crew with Coaches Bobby Mahoney, Joe Stolzer and Eric Newman.
Five-Star Basketball NY, lead by Eric Newman and Dave Brown, recently kicked off its pre-season training program for middle school and high school players at PS 191. Each Sunday morning leading up to the season student-athletes from Lawrence Woodmere Academy, Xavier, Fieldston, Riverdale, Chaminade and Bronx Science, among others, will be working hard on skills. Strength and conditioning expert Joe Stolzer is a part of the workout as his drills add an extra edge.

when i was a teenager in the early ’80s, dudes wore that very same orange five-star t-shirt when they’d come back from camp like it was a badge of honor. and most times any player who had it on had a game that was much improved afterwards. it’s like an institution at this point, glad it’s survived all the craziness in youth sports after the jordan era.

The Pre-season training is being held at PS 191 on 61st and Amsterdam on Sunday mornings. Middle School is at 9:30am and High School is at 11:00am. Please email Eric Newman at ericnewman@five-starbasketball.com.

Coach ENEW: Good work. Five-Star is really expanding it’s reach. I’m a 3x Five-Star Camper (Honesdale, Pitt II and Honesdale Guard Camp) and still hoard my neon orange tees. I’ll never forget the chants to provoke Garf to launch a three. I only saw him comply once. He built one heck of a brand that never lost sight of its focus on teaching.
