Banger at Goat Park, Tournament of Champions 2008

Last year Manny Maldonado organized an invite-only run on Thursdays at the Boys’ Club of New York on 10th St. and Ave. A in the Lower. The goal is to unite entertainment/apparel industry folks with the BCNY staff in order to make connections that ultimately help the city’s youth. The For da Love Run at The Boys’ Club of NY is back by popular demand and there was a team that started an early dynasty. Amar, Sam, Musa, Jay and Anthony refused to lose ever since their five was assembled. Good ball movement and unselfish play kept them on the floor and their dynasty intact for about 5 straight dubs. Amar apparently picked up a jimmy in the off-season and scored when his team needed points most. Disco Dave returned after a stint on the IR and knocked down some smooth Js in the grill of the defense. There was a battle of the Titans on the block between Will and Musa. On to the top play nominees:

In the final game, after his team trailed early 5-1, Amar hit the game-winning floater with his right hand (he’s lefty); Disco Dave displayed why he has that nickname as he danced his way to the cup and crossed the bejeesus out of Sam at mid-court, leaving Sam frozen and scratching his dome; I hit a pull-up trey from half court; and Musa knocked down a Tim Duncan from about 12’ out.

As for the not-so-top play nominees:

Jay fired up an oxygen ball floater; Musa thought he was a shooter for a second and attempted a trey that hit nothing but backboard; On a fast break with only one defender in front of me I decided to pull up from the corner for nothin’ but air; and, perhaps the most egregious play since Manny Maldonado started the For da Love Run last year: Musa, who stands at about 6’7 and 280 lbs, attempted what appeared to be a rebound dunk. Normally there’s nothing wrong with this, however not only was the chance of Musa completing the play a long-shot, but he jumped into and landed on Anthony, sending him directly into the nearest wall. Anthony continued playing and is in stable condition, fortunately.

That does it for this week’s recap. For those who were in attendance, please feel free to fill in any gaps I may have left or add to anything I mentioned. Stay tuned for next week…

I thought that this run was called for the love, but obviousley jon lopez A.K.A. J Lo (pause) A.k.A. Bill Falseton thinks it’s called for the Hate run or for the Lies run. Jon has a new blog on bouncemagazine.com where he suppose to report the high lights and low light of the run. Like true a reporter he writes a lot of properganda. Jon has a select memory and select hate. Im flabergasted and discusted by the properganda of media in todays blog. Once again with his select memory and hate, jon only gives props to a select few including his self weather he wins or loose. I was part of the five games in row winning team(good job destroying Jons team lastnight guys) but I was only mentioned for my l low lights. I was crossed by Disco Dave A.K.A. Aqua Man (good move Dave) but in the same night within my teams winning streak I to crossed Disco Dave A.K.A. Aqua Man and finshed my lefthand, (Dave if you read this please cosign the move for the who want to know the truth) the same left hand I used to score four layups in one game thanks to Amar A.K.A. Garry Payton A.K.A Fountin of youth and pin point passing. I also hit a few clutch jump shots that im not known for making and three game winning shots thanks to Ant A.K.A Vin Diesal A.K.A XXX (pause) setting good screens and being a good passer and team mate. Ant also locked Jon up who only scored 5 points in five games that he played in lastnight (ant I need you to cosign that for me since you were gurding her). Mussa A.K.A. Freeway A.K.A. Hightower from police academy A.K.A Mos Def on steroids A.K.A. Cuddy from the Wire A.K.A. I will hurt my own team mate going for a rebond dunk played exelent defense on the perimeter and was the ultimate team player by doing all the little things like grabing rebonds clearing space for his for his gurds to score. J has a crafty inside outside that helped our team continue our win streak. Where’s the love where’s the truth.
