Cross Country did his thing at the Gardiner Memorial Classic in St. James Park. The tournament will be a part of my “To The Baja” feature on Thursday.
Word up, Boobie Smooth and I co-hosted MSG Summerball, the only weekly streetball TV series covering NYC playground culture in the world (and also the network’s highest rated program this summer). Thursday, September 4th is our season finale, tune in! This week’s show features highlights from Nike Tournament of Champions, Gardiner Memorial Classic, the announcers’ round table, and much much more.
The episode will air Thursday @ 7pm, 7:30pm, and 10:30pm, with re-broadcasts Saturday 10:30pm, then Sunday morning 10am and 11am. Check your local listings as these can change due to live sporting events.

Summerball organized a special announcers round table at Kingdome that will air on the final show. Back row (L-R): Me, Brawley (Pro City), Gumby (King Towers); middle row: Horse (Fireball), Al Cash (EBC), G-Stacks (HITS); Front: Taz (Kingdome), Boobie Smooth (EBC), P.O. (Watson), Joe Pope (Watson). Bobby C (HITS) showed up late. AG, Duke Tango, and many others unfortunately couldn’t make it. It was history to be a part of it.

Me on mic with Corey “Homicide” Williams at the 5th Ave. Classic All-Star Game in the Garden.

Mr. Dimes says:
Bob,
you missed a goddie at TWC last nite…
Homicide and Francisco Garcia reppin Dyckman vs. Ron Ron and the Glover Brothers with Gordy Malone. Lots of hard nosed action, great post play and guard play. Ron ended with about 26 and Homicide had 34. Garcia looked a lil shaky though! i was expecting more from him…
Ron’s team won in the end though. The crowd on 119th and 2nd is crazy haha

Big names coming out tonite at TWC.
Too bad Hommo left for Australia already, wanted to catch him and Ron Ron go at it one last time this summer. That rivalry has been pretty intense and physical

Nice show this week. Jack Ryan feature, Pro City Playoffs, Ron Artest interview, Dyckman playoffs, Born Ready interview, Rock Steady feature, Bob even pulled out the wax for the soundtrack to the movie Fastbreak. Definitly the best show so far this summer. Props.

Glad to see the streetball announcers finally get there due. P.O. & Joe Pope got the game on lock right now. I would say that half the crowd at Watson come for them and the other for the game. G Stacks has everybody playing hard for that G stacks favorite nephew award. And his partner Bobby C. Is the Marv Albert of streetball. Al cash & Duke Tango should be in the streetball hall of fame. Taz always has Kingdome poppin. And Boobie smooth, The only announcer i ever seen give a lesson in black history while announcing a game. (EBC)

Elliot Rosado says:
It’s called streetball because that’s what it is. It’s about the atmosphere that has been created. It’s like being at a party while a game is going on. It’s watching MC’s freeestyle on the mic during timeouts. Kids dancing during intermission. It’s entering the park for free to see pro’s. And hoping the guy who is good enough but never got a shot gets the best of the pro. It’s being able to walk in the park with four chicken wings & fries. The word street is not a bad word. It is what it is.

To me basketball on the playground is the essence its wut every1 started on from Wilt Chamberlain to LeBron James everyone no matter who you are started here, whether it was a indoor or outdoor court, metal or plexiglass backboard you where there all day either out of boredom or enjoyment. Street basketball to me in a sum of words is basketball in its purest form.
