Nothing But Net @ Rucker Park The Latest / Aug 14, 2008 / 1:54 pm

A smooth J up at Rucker.

We celebrate how the playground uplifts, assists and benefits our communities. While that happens every time the bleachers fill up to get a glimpse of Ron Artest, Ryan “Special FX” Williams, B.J. “The Beast” McFarland, Sponge Bob, and every other star imaginable, there are special events that speak beyond that.

On Monday, Aug. 18th from noon to 2pm at Rucker Park (155th St. and Frederick Douglass Blvd.), some of NYC’s top playground players will team up with actor Tom Cavanagh (from “Scrubs” and “Ed”) and his wife Maureen (from Sports Illustrated) to host their inaugural charity game to raise money for the United Nations Foundation’s Nothing But Nets campaign to prevent malaria worldwide.

The event aims to demonstrate that nets are not only central to basketball, but are an essential tool in the effort to prevent the spread of malaria – a leading killer of children in Africa.

A $10 donation is all it takes to purchase and distribute a long-lasting insecticide-treated bed net to a family in need.

Does anybody know if the top players still play at the ebc. Guys like Kareem Reid, DP, K-sat, T2, Junie, etc etc. I don’t think is ebc tournament is dead as E said, I see it as they are doing their own thing.

I was also hoping to see the ebc dream team from last year to play this year and see if they can do better. That would of been a good idea to see how last year was from this year.
