Growing up, my mom taught us to avoid gas station food at all times. Presumably, the fill-up houses would employ spotty preparation methods, fail to check expiration dates, or not adhere to the strict dietary health code. Well, as I’ve grown more rebellious in my teenage years, I’ve experimented with a bevy of foody establishments, hoping to find a hidden gem…
And I found one—well, it’s not really hidden, but Athens Gyros is nestled in the comfortable confines of this Shell Gas Station three miles from my pad. The owner of the restaurant previously owned an incredibly popular restaurant in Madison, WI, but came to Westport (a township just outside of Waunakee) to try his hand at self-employment.
Before eating here, I’d never tried my hand at Greek food. A Gyros sandwich, complete with this incredibly awesome cucumber sauce, onions, tomatoes, heavenly Pita bread, and succulent lamb is the perfect choice for me after I’m done hitting the courts.

Bob- D’oh! French fries are seasoned with Sea Salt, which is much healthier than the typical table salt. They’re addictive.
