2007 New Heights Summer Academy visit, and . . .

2008!
Last week, New Heights Summer Academy Director Ted Smith invited me to speak to his upcoming 7th and 8th grader campers for the second year in a row. I do guest appearances like these whenever i can find time, and always appreciate the love the youth show me.
New Heights educates with balls and books. It immediately took me back to the Upward Fund Academy that I attended during my high school years in ‘82 and ‘83. UF was sponsored by Pony sneakers, and I still have my warm-up jacket saved from it! But I also learned valuable lessons back then about how to keep eye contact during job interviews, and why writing a 10-year projection was important in reaching goals. (I wanted to grow up and become a journalist, and here i am now.)
Big up to all the kids and coaches, and to all programs like these worldwide helping to “Each One, Teach One” as Bob McCullough Sr. lives so eloquently.
For parents interested in getting their kids involved, reach out to

See how i blended in with the campers who were not even half my age in ‘07!!!

No one fell asleep on my speech . . . whew!

When I was around that age, I went to Queens College Sports Academy, which was directed by Norm Roberts. Coach Roberts really instilled a great deal of confidence in all of us, and taught us so many lessons that have shaped me into the person I am today, and I’m sure some of the things he told me back then are being utilized today, most likely sub-consciously.
It’s a great thing you did for those kids Bob, you really are a great person.. Kids need stuff like that in their lives..
now let me hop up off it! haha

Your new name is Kool Bob Philanthropist!!
Nah man, jus playing. All jokes aside though, I definitely respect and appreciate the way you’re always doing positive things for the people of NYC. The kids really cherish these types of things and it’s truly a blessing for them to have a role model like KBL!!
