The Bounce Magazine squad lost tonight in the first round Ham-Fish Stephen Mulderry Memorial Men’s Unlimited League Playoffs by six. It was a tough season with only two Ws and five Ls, however I’m mad proud of the crew, and want to shout out all the players and especially our readers who came out on the regular to support.
Ham-Fish Tournament Director Bill Lynch informed me that I’m being awarded with the 2008 Stephen Mulderry Memorial Sportsmanship Award. They gave me a trophy back in 2002 for the same honor. This season marked my 16th consecutive campaign out there in L.E.S.’s longest running outdoor tournament. Three times my squads made it to the chip, only to take 2nd place. In each instance, I instructed Bill to take the money he was gonna use to buy us prizes and use it for his youth leagues.
Aside from the losses, I had mad fun this summer, and also broke the record for 40+ players with a 25 point performance. Tonight I finished with 16. Honestly, I would have been happy going on my donut if it meant us winning. Bounce’s Danny Millan, Lekeith Taylor, Roman Perez, Lawrence Roman, Andre Johnson, Muhammad Ghumman all played superb. It just wasn’t enough.
The Sportmanship Award will be presented to me on Ham-Fish Championship Game Day, Thursday August 14th, 6:45pm. I invite all to come out (we can hit up Mama’s Soul Food Restaurant afterwards where the Mac ‘N Cheese is ridiculo!) Court is located at the Ham-Fish playground behind the outdoor swimming pool in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Enter the park on Pitt St. just off the corner of E. Houston St. For reference, Avenue C turns into Pitt south of E. Houston. By train, take the F to 2nd Ave, use the 1st Ave. exit, out the turnstile use the stairway to the right. Cross Allen St. and continue East until you hit Pitt. Will take around 10 minutes walking. By car, take the FDR Houston St. Exit.
