There is hard-nosed, grimy, no-blood-no-foul streetball. There is also the entertaining variety where guards dribble through a defender’s legs and high leapers cuff it on four in the paint store, all while an announcer intensifies it all with his lyrics.
Kingdome (114th St. bet. 5th Ave./Lenox, Harlem) combines the best of both worlds. We recently watched a game where in one moment power forward Ricardo elbowed opponent Jonathan Yevin, who M.C. Taz hilariously nicknamed “Teen Wolf,” dead center in his neck. The very next play “Skip” a.k.a. “Crossing Guard” bopped the fish sandwich out of his defender, then planted a 27 footer gently through the cotton.
This is Kingdome, a tournament celebrating 25+ years of existence, and since 2004 has crafted one of the largest outdoor summer crowds in the world. Come check it out every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening starting at 6pm. Take the 2, 3, 6, B, C train to 116th St. And peep our Bounce orange distribution box on 116th and Lenox if you want our latest issue, for free!
