First, on Friday night clutch free-throw shooting by Quinton “T2” Hosley and Anthony Glover in the final 43.5 seconds propelled the Dyckman (204th St. and Nagle Ave., Inwood, Manhattan) past a scrappy Philly All-Stars. The select team, who started Kareem “Big Game” Reid and Adris “Too Hard To Guard” DeLeon in the backcourt, took control of the game early on the strength of their tremendous guard play. By halftime, Dyckman was up 16 pts. Philly, however, would not retreat quietly. They outscored the house team 37-32 in the second half behind a full court press and a stretch of sloppy ball-handling by Dyckman’s guards. Conversion at the charity stripe made the difference in the end. Brothers Anthony and Mike Glover led all scorers with 21 pts.
Yesterday afternoon’s game between Money Train and the Corporate League All-Stars started off as a close game at West 4th (West 3rd St. and Ave. of the Americas). Ultimately, it turned into a laugher as Money Train went berserk, winning 131-113 in front of the capacity crowd at the Cage. Money Train held just a two-point lead after one, but began to pull away in the second and took a 10-point lead into intermission. “Fridge” led Money Train with 20 points while Darren “Primal Fear” Phillip chipped in with 16 and Ryan “Special FX” Williams added 13. Tempers started to flare at the end of this one as Money Train appeared to be running up the score, but cooler heads prevailed. Money Train is scheduled to take on 1.3/The Champs Friday, Aug. 1 at 6:00 p.m.

don’t nobody sleep on philly. believe they got some ballplayers down there, and it’s been a long history of them coming up to harlem to go against our best, dating back to wilt chamberlein and earl ‘black jesus’ monroe reppin’ against the rucker pros when it was played on 128th st. and 7th ave. shout out to kenny stevens, ralph pena, and sherminator for inviting me to join the 3 point contest. i came in 2nd place in the off the street fan division with 12 points, and that was without even taking one shot to warm up! the final was bananas, kenny carpenter aka rodman beat ‘06 champ brian kortovich. and the fan division winner made it to the final 4 against the unlimitied dudes. i was rooting for him–crazy!

Rahim-
I would’ve loved to have been there for that game. Unfortunately, I haven’t mastered being in two places at one time yet. (LoL) Congrats to Philly for holding it down in there hometown and in NYC. It’s not easy to rep where you’re from in front of a tradition rich ‘hood like Dyckman.
P.S. That Philly cat who goes by the name “Smokin’ Sumthing” is a talented dude. He did his thing Fri. night.

I’ve been waiting for this write up… Not to diss the whole Dyckman tournament, but what i saw that night was terrible! I appreciate streetball but there has to be a balance between “streetball” and organized basketball. One point guard is supposed to be pretty hard to guard…Yeah thats cuz he was picking up his dribble the whole time and faking the defender… yet never got called for a travel one time. At one point everyone just went nut, people took the ball up the court and didnt even make one pass.. wtf was that? And no one had the hot hand either.
I’m amazed Dyckman has big name sponsors, what i saw that day was all show (and a weak one at that) and no substance. The game started an hour and a half late, home team showed up like they were famous, coaches were drinking nutcrackers… i left completely turned off. Needless to say Dyckman park won’t see me anytime soon… I’ll probably give it a second chance next year, but I’m riding this summer out with Pro city, Rucker, and a Kingdome game if i can get one in.

CC-
dyckman features some of the best passing teams in teh city like TNP and Dominican Power. what you saw was an all-star game. watch the nba’s version and you won’t see the level of sharing that you’d witness with the celtics or hornets–nah’mean? i’d say give it a second chance but go on a friday night that one of the above teams mentioned is competing. you’ll love the atmosphere and intensity. to hard too guard hit 40+ in a game for eastern washington last season, and has done the same at pro city countless times. he deserves his nickname and can play organized ball. in an all-star game, though, he, as anyone else would be, wants to entertain the crowd.

I can definitely respect it. I was pretty tight the next day…especially since i kept hearing dyckman was the place to be this summer. It probably wasnt the best night to catch what i was looking for. I’ll give it another go round soon.
