DJ Stretch Armstrong, me, and DJ Lord Sear.
Recently, Stretch and I spun together for The Wackness screening and premiere party. When my man threw on Queen Latifah’s “King and Queen Creation” off her first LP with Mark the 45 King rhyming, I lost my bloomers! Stretch was always good for blessing me with some ill album cuts on the dancefloor . . .
Some, or many, of you may remember the heyday of me and Stretch Armstrong’s radio tenure on WKCR 89.9FM NY from 1990 to 1998. For the Source Magazine’s 100th issue, they voted us the #1 Hip Hop Show of All-Time. We introduced the world to the following unsigned artists: Nas, Biggie, Wu-Tang, Big Pun, Mobb Deep, Hieroglyphics Crew, Organized Konfusion (Monch’s first group), Company Flow, Big L, Cam’ron, DMX, and Jay-Z before he had an album deal. The first time anyone heard them live on radio (usually with their fingers on a pause button recording a cassette tape), it was while listening to us. I could go on with 30 other names, too, but you get the point.
Since this is the 10th year since me, Stretch and Sear broadcasted together, there have been talks of a reunion party in honor of our ’90s work. We’re still working on getting a venue and a date, and ojala that info will be on this blog very soon. In the meantime, you can hit up Stretch and catch old shows, freestyles, etc. at www.konstantkontakt.blogspot.com or www.myspace.com/stretcharmstrongandbobbito

Stretch and I buggin’ out in the WKCR studio back in ‘94.

Thanks for taking me back to the good old days…without question the hottest hip hop radio show of all-time and I didn’t need Source magazine to point that out or put me on but I was happy when they gave much respect due and madd props attesting to and certifying this fact…if you were not fiending to tune in then you truly missed a great peace of history and genius…this flavor for your ear can never be duplicated or replicated again unless of course there is a reunion show…I’m telling you younger heads I’m sorry you missed it because you just don’t realize the impact these pioneers had on hip hop and what you hear and see today…try and view this also an educational lesson and resource as you expand your knowledge of where it all began to understand from where and how far this game has come…this was the ultimate platform because nothing was watered down…instead it was straight laced raw, uncut underground lyrics and beats from many if not all of the greatest past and present rappers who blessed us with some of the dopest (yeah dope!)freestyle flows you’ve ever heard…spending time between NYC, D.C and NJ during this period I would be remisced if I didn’t also shout out the Teddy Teddy and Special K radio show in New Jersey which also kept my ears tuned to the streets…hey B is there any one or a few artist you really wanted to get up in the studio but were unable to?

Bobbito Garcia a.k.a. Kool Bob Love says:
rakim never got to come up, nor special k from the treacherous three. those two are on my top ten lyricists of all-time, would’ve been great if they had freestyled on the show. but pretty much everyone else was there. it was truly unforgettable every week.

Steve Kluback says:
I nominate Stretch to call Eminem to headline.
If these guys are willing, the show would be bananas:
Original members of the Wu (if healthy)
Fat Joe (without radio songs)
Pharoah Monch
Reggie Redman Noble
Guru/Premier reunion? maybe i’m dreaming?
