I recently returned from Fort Lauderdale, and a place where I love to play is at Lynn University. It’s invitation-only and ran by Larry “The Lawyer” Schnier who played at Northwestern. He’s a great shooter and an annoying guy to chase around on the court, especially when it’s 8:30am. They play on Saturday and Sunday mornings plus Tuesday and Thursday nights. I always book my flights to include the weekend so I can be there.
It’s not your typical run and quite different from New York. They play only one game which is usually up to 120. Somehow, it stays competitive even though there is no fear of sitting. Sometimes, 12 guys show up, other times, 20 to 25. We play with subs. Sounds strange, but it’s always a fun. There’s little to no arguing and when there is, it’s usually hilarious. A lot of great players and a few celebs have passed through. Some are even regulars. Here’s a brief list:
Billy Thompson (NBA), Essie Hollis (NBA, overseas), Damian Hollis (GW University, Captain), Torian Green (NBA), Damon Arnett (FAU), Mark Sanford, Johhny Newman, Marshall Greer, Jeff Kelly, Sean Wood, Adam Sandler, Bobby Collins (Stand up comedian), Jeffery Sergeant, Rex Walters (Kansas, NBA), Omar Cooper, Charles Jones (NBA), Scott Gustler, Ali Heller (Ryder) Fatmir Suka, Eni Suka, John Creft, Danny Stubs, Nat Burell, Matt Doherty, and many others.
Shout outs to some of my favorite regulars, Kevin “The Enforcer” Heller, his brother Neal “Triple Crown Printing” Heller, Mark Walsh aka “The Marriot Buffet,” and the man who puts it all together and makes all the rules, Larry The Lawyer!
By the way, you know you’re at the right location when you see two or more BMW’s in the parking lot. Everyone seems to be pretty successful at this run.

i want next! oh, wait, there is no next. can i at least get on teh squad with the ‘marriot buffet’? sounds like he sets great picks.
if you’re mentioning the same marshall greer that i know, that dude was the closest thing i saw to a dude that should’ve been in the nba during the mid-’90s. he played with coach james ryan’s primetime squad in a lot of nyc tournaments and killed, i mean really murdered. you don’t understand. in the first year of the nike pro city league, which is now at hunter college but started at environmental h.s. on 55th and 10th ave, marshall led the league in scoring. he did that everywhere. him and derrick canada at one point where the most untoppable dudes in the 5 boroughs. then marshall dissappeared. i haven’t seen him since, not in any of the old-timer leagues, nothing. maybe he’s down in florida hitting his signature jumpers on ‘the marriot buffet’?

Thanks, Bob. I’m sure if u r ever in Florida, we can bring u down to the run. We will let u and Larry the Lawyer shoot it out! I think you’d be impressed. Someone said he was a better shooter than Jackie Ryan. I didn’t agree. That’s pretty hard to say. Jackie hardly misses.
