Last Friday for the 4th of July, I was hired to spin Latin records poolside in the Hamptons, Long Island . . .

I can’t front, everyday I fiend to be out on the court, especially during the summer, but aside from reading back issues of Dime and France’s Reverse Magazine, I wasn’t really thinking about playing ball one bit . . .
Can you blame me?
Name the record label on my turntable and win a free year’s subscription to Bounce!

Tico Records ?
found on google : ” Here is what I can tell you about Tico Records. It started in 1951 at 778 Tenth Ave. in New York. The proprietors were George Goldner and Jack Waxman. Tico’s sister labels were Gee and Rama Records. If you are my age, you will remember them for Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers, The Heartbeats and The Cleftones. In 1957, Tico was purchased by Roulette Records.
Their big cross over hit was “El Watusi” by Ray Barretto. The record was such a big hit in 1963 it was also issued on a 78RPM record. It is believed to be the last 78 RPM on the charts. “El Watsui” was taken from the “Charanga Modrna” album and produced by Tommy Reig.”

gee, kevin, thanks for ruining someone else’s chance at a free subscription! you already have one! haha. oh well! i grew up listening to tico cuz my father was heavy on tito puente. my understanding is that by the late ’60s, tico became a part of the fania empire of affiliated labels including vaya, coco, and inca, but i could be wrong. either way, it was a legendary label, could always trust tico releases!
