Throwback Thursdays: MJ in Cons! / Jul 10, 2008 / 9:00 am

Michael Jordan wore the buttery smooth Converse Fastbreak 3/4 (only a Mid and Low were released to the public) en route to averaging a team high 17.1 points per game as the United States team obliterated it’s worldly competition during the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, California. The squad went 8-0, and featured Patrick Ewing, Steve Alford, and Chris Mullin.

The Fastbreak special make-ups were available in white/navy and white/red. Bob mentions in his book Where’d You Get Those? New York Sneaker Culture: 1960-1987, that the only time he’d ever seen them was indeed on Jordan during the Olympics. Rarefied nylon son!

wow did mike dunleavy foul the pound cake out of mike mike above!

of all the shoes that appear in my book, the only one that wound up being wrongly identified are these above. they are not fastbreak mids, although they look like they should’ve been. when i was doing research, converse did not provide the correct info. while doing espn “It’s the Shoes” however, the brand provided the proper model name. unfortunately, i don’t remember it off the top of my head! i’ll look it up though.

in any event, dem joints were hot turkey bacon man!

dunleavy thought he was still in flatbush with that foul. jordan was a complete ball player then.

THE MOMENT IS FROZEN IN TIME. I BET THE CONVERSE EXCUTIVES WISH THEY KNEW WHAT NIKE KNEW AND SIGNED MICHAEL TO A LONG TERM DEAL. PEOPLE WOULD HAVE FORGOTTEN ABOUT CHUCK TAYLOR.
