When your moniker is a synonym for police code 187 (Homicide), it’s expected that everyone wants a piece of you. So was the case yesterday at Nike Pro City when United Brooklyn starring Corey “Homicide” Williams took on Gold’s Gym’s Smush Parker. Apparently there was some friendly trash talk between the two players’ respective camps and before the game Parker could be heard loud and clear, “And I got Homicide!” The crowd got wind of the brewing rivalry and every time either player touched the rock, everyone in the gym got on their feet and made some noise. The game was nip tuck for much of the first half. Homicide was his usual self, slashing to the basket and showing more confidence, pulling up and hitting the mid-range jumper consistently. The X-factor for Gold’s was the play of veteran Gordy “Boobie” Malone. I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but he has been on tear looking like the Malone of old. He scored 22 points in the first-half to help Gold’s to a 59-50 halftime advantage and gave UBK defenders fits in the post.
John “The Franchise” Strickland made a guest appearance for Gold’s, arriving in the third quarter sporting a much slimmer frame. Franchise didn’t score much but provided another match up problem for UBK. Gold’s blew the lead open and lead by as many as 18 at 98-80 with just over eight minutes left in the game. UBK made a furious rally, and on a gorgeous baseline drive and bank shot off the glass by Homicide, who also drew the foul and hit the free-throw, tied it 102-102 with three minutes remaining. Shawn “Murda” Simpson was called for an intentional foul on Malone with Gold’s up 105-102 and 58 seconds left in the contest. That pretty much sealed the deal as Gold’s hit freebies the rest of the way en route to a 111-104 victory. After the game it was all love as both teams dapped each other after a hard fought game. Homicide led UBK with a game-high 39 points and eight boards, while Murda added 30 points. For the winners, Gordy Malone finished with 39 points, yes that’s 35-plus in back-to-back games for the vet, and nine boards. Parker finished with 12 points and 11 boards.
In the other game at Pro City, Nike 1 led by Eugene “Built Ford Tough” Lawrence, Darren “Primal Fear” Phillip and Garnett Thompson dispatched of Prime Time with ease 122-93. Brandon Jennings, fresh off announcing his intentions to play in Europe and forgo college this fall, had a rough night guarding the much stronger Lawrence. During one sequence, Lawrence hit Jennings hard with a one-two cross over that confused him then drove in for the lay. The ensuing possession, he hit him with a cross over and came back with a spin before bulling his way for another lay. Every time either player touched the rock the crowd went bananas, but in the end Nike 1 had too many weapons and too many bigs for Prime Time to match up with. Primal Fear lead Nike with 28 points and nine rebounds, Thompson added 23 and 10, while Lawrence finished with 21 and five dime. New Jersey Net Marcus Williams scored 21 points to lead Prime Time.
At Tri-State Classic, the X-Men led by former LIU standout Corey Goodall’s 22 points and Chris “6” Wehye’s 21 turned what was just a two point halftime lead into an old fashioned beat down as they dispatched of Off The Hook 99-72. Donald Hennie dropped 21 in a losing effort. In the second game, Bingo All-Stars’ Kareem Reid scored an easy 34 points to go with 13 dimes and five boards, leading his squad to a 105-99 victory. Reid and Ricky “Slick Rick” Soliver, who showed up mid-way through the second quarter, went at it at the end of the game. As they walked off the court, they jawed at each other about who took care of whom in the French B League playoffs last spring. Reid said, “We sent you home Rick, don’t say nothing,” and Rick came back with “You went home right after that, so what’s up?”
Tri-State (145th St. and Lenox Ave.) resumes play tonight, Sean Bell All-Star’s featuring Brian “20″ Woodward and BJ “The Beast” McFarland battles Bingo All-Stars, who will be suiting up Ron Artest and Kareem Reid. Thursday at Pro City (Hunter College Gym, 68th and Lexington Ave.) will be Dyckman featuring Andre “3000″ Barrett against X-Men and Mike “The Icon” Campbell in the 6:30 game and QueensBridge featuring Ryan “Special FX” Williams versus The Uptowners featuring Adris “Too Hard To Guard” DeLeon in the night cap.

Is it me or has EBC met its demise? They are curiously conspicuous, by the dearth of notice that they receive from Bounce Mag, during your Pro-Am Leagues recaps. Have they descended from “King of the Hill” to “Bums on the block” ?
Please let me know , so that when I travel from Beantown, I can plan my visit accordingly.
Out using three wings, extra fly!!!

Good write up.
Personally I havent seen much popping at the Ebc this year. The few times that I’ve slid over there, I watched 2 20 point blow outs lol. I did see B. Jennings get loose over there tho..
I’ve been at the Tri State all this week, the comp and crowd are much better. Announcing is kinda shaky but whatever, dudes come to ball seriously. Everyone gets into the game. Everyone wants their team to get the W.
The other night, A butta was coaching under the rim for Dipset as they cooled off a late surge by Dykman. Money was cheering like they were his team.
Also, even though his team lost to Moneytrain, I was majorly impressed and honored to finally see Shamgod play, he’s really gifted.
The Bell AllStars Vs Bingo tonight was a nail biter as both teams fought for the win like they were playing for the chip.
I hate how it ended, but thats how it rocks in the streets sometimes.
Peace

It’s a beautiful thing to see Shamgod Wells back home and in action. He does not have much help. But he’s still got it. Shamgod JR. is also pretty good.

Thanks Shaun. I was a bit confused, I thought it was the kid from Seton Hall too and then they kept calling Gordy “the cab driver” at Pro City. Thanks for clearing that up.
