Joe Budden in the building to root for QB.
Pro City was standing room only Tuesday night. Game one pitted United Brooklyn, finally at full strength, against Queens Bridge. UBK suited up an All-Star backcourt with John “Mookie” Thomas, Corey “Homicide” Williams and 2007 Last Man Standing champ Speedy Williams off the bench. Queens Bridge brought out Sacramento King Ron Artest and former St. John’s forward, Ryan “Special EFX” Williams. UBK took and maintained a double-digit lead through out the first half. The game got a little heated when Homicide drove and finished with the left, drawing the and-one on Artest. Some words were exchanged and the end result was Artest being hit with a tech and challenging Homicide, “You guard me on the other end.” As expected QB made a run in the second half, ignited by arguably the best dunk I’ve ever seen. Special EFX threw down an alley, but the crazy part was his mid-section was at about rim level before throwing it down. I kid you not. The contest was a see-saw battle for much of the second half, with both squads exchanging baskets through out the fourth quarter. Mookie then hit his fourth triple of the game with five minutes remaining to give UBK the lead for good. When it was all said and done the final score was 134-125 UBK. UBK had five players in double figures with Homicide’s 44 points leading the way. James “Sticks” Williams finished with 27. Mookie added 23, Kavon Jones 21, and Shawn “Murda” Simpson 12. Artest was the high scorer for QB with 40 points, while Ryan Williams added 26 in the loss.
With such a crazy opening game, there is no way that game two could match that intensity right? Wrong. Dyckman had Andre “3000” Barrett while Prime Time featured New Jersey Net Marcus Williams and Brandon Jennings. Barrrett ran circles around the Prime Time defenders and making it look like a lay up line as he broke down the defense time and again and finished at the cup. He finished with 25 first-half points as Dyckman led 79-58. However, when playing with a 24 second shot clock a comeback isn’t out of the question. Marcus Williams decided it was money time and began scoring almost at will, much to the joy of his buddy rapper Joe Buddens, who was in the house and cheering after swearing through out what looked like a beat down in the first-half. Williams dropped a total of 31 points in the second half, including two timely treys to lead Prime Time from 21 points down to a 132-126 win. Williams finished with 45 points and Jennings added 19 for the winners. For the losers, Barrett finished with 40 points and Kenny Adeleke added 18 points and 16 boards.
Pro City resumes play Thursday, the first game is scheduled to tip-off at 6:30pm will be the Uptowners against NIKE 1. Game two is X-Men versus Gold’s Gym which tips at 8:30.
