Nike Pro City: DP and Special FX Go Off / Jun 20, 2008 / 10:00 am

As one team hoisted a championship trophy Tuesday night in Boston marking the end of the NBA season, another was just beginning its title defense on Manhattan’s East side. Nike Pro City is under way and three-time champ NIKE 1 made a bold statement in its opening night rout of Queensbridge QBG at Hunter College (68th St. & Lexington).

Darren “Primal Fear” Phillips a.k.a. “DP” paced NIKE1 with 27 while Junie Sanders netted 22. Eugene Lawrence, the former St. John’s and Lincoln HS guard, had 13 with 10 dimes.

Despite the loss, QB’s Ryan Williams a.k.a. “Special FX” went bananas. The high-flying lefty, who also has a deadly cannon, poured in 28 in the first half and finished with a game high 43. The former St. John’s forward is also currently a BALL4LIFE Tour member.

Derrick Phelps, who helped lead UNC to the ‘92/’93 NCAA title and got a quick run with the Sacramento Kings the following year, scored 14.

Next night of action is Tuesday, June 24 at 6:30 p.m.
