Nike Pro City: DP and Special FX Go Off / Jun 20, 2008 / 10:00 am

As one team hoisted a championship trophy Tuesday night in Boston marking the end of the NBA season, another was just beginning its title defense on Manhattan�s East side. Nike Pro City is under way and three-time champ NIKE 1 made a bold statement in its opening night rout of Queensbridge QBG at Hunter College (68th St. & Lexington).

Darren �Primal Fear� Phillips a.k.a. “DP” paced NIKE1 with 27 while Junie Sanders netted 22. Eugene Lawrence, the former St. John�s and Lincoln HS guard, had 13 with 10 dimes.

Despite the loss, QB’s Ryan Williams a.k.a. �Special FX� went bananas. The high-flying lefty, who also has a deadly cannon, poured in 28 in the first half and finished with a game high 43. The former St. John�s forward is also currently a BALL4LIFE Tour member.

Derrick Phelps, who helped lead UNC to the ‘92/’93 NCAA title and got a quick run with the Sacramento Kings the following year, scored 14.

Next night of action is Tuesday, June 24 at 6:30 p.m.
